Ahhh...I see. This helps out a lot.
I've tried using spackle much the same way but I didn't use shellac to seal it, just gesso. So I was really unhappy with how the paint kept chipping off. :/
But I think you've inspired me to make some horns myself! Hahaha, you tend to do that with me for some reason. First the keys/locks, now this...

yeah that happened to me with the spackle originally too, so I figured it just had to be sealed. And shellac is just the sealant for the job XD
The only other advice I could give about the horns is don't make them to large cause then they just want to move around on your head XD
And I'm glad I could inspire!
