Johnny Five - One of Cyberdyne's (or, more accurately, the company that would eventually become Cyberdyne) earliest ventures into the field of robotics was a series of small robots perfect for bomb diffusing, space exploration, delivering aid, etc.

A stray bolt of lightning hit one of the robots, erasing it's programming and causing it to develop free will.

Cyberdyne's security chief, Captain Skroeder, tried his best to retrieve the robot but was thwarted by the misguided scientists in charge. They didn't seem to realize that this powerful robot, with no sense of conscience or morality, shouldn't be allowed to roam free and impeded the captain's noble efforts.

Skroeder understood that allowing him to watch TV and develop values from that alone could be... dangerous at best. What if he learns how to treat people from watching The Three Stooges (inflicting massive head trauma on others), video games (where life and death have no real meaning) or Game of Thrones? No, it's best to provide it with a safe, well-rounded learning environment.

Eventually the robot (originally designated "Number Five" but now identifying as "Johnny Five") escaped by creating decoys and leading them to their deaths (displaying either a lack of understanding of the problems with creating life and sending it to its death... or, even worse, an indifference to those problems).

He's been lying low and avoiding "disassembling" by planning countless modifications and improvements to his already sturdy (albeit weak looking) robotic frame. (A project that Gadget assists with, in return for his own upkeep and updates.)
