Description
Mick Rory - Mick Rory grew up the son of a mechanic in a small Irish town. An early encounter with matches and an empty warehouse led to a lifelong love affair with pyrotechnics and explosives. While he started off with matches and gas, Rory quickly graduated to pipe bombs (complete with nasty bits of shrapnel) and homemade chemical bombs. To continue the comparison, his doctorate was in sabotage, creating situations that practically beg for "accidents" and "acts of God".
When the I.R.A. learned about Rory's "extracurricular activities", they were quick to recruit him. Teach him to fight and give him plenty of opportunities to practice his bomb-making.
And things were good for awhile. But Rory eventually found the I.R.A to be... overzealous. It's one thing to bomb the headquarters of people that are attacking you, but unrelated churches and schools is where Rory drew the line.
So Rory submitted his "resignation" in the form of a building-shattering explosion and a fleet of sabotaged, ruined cars and he left, making his way to Europe.
While he initially found work in a repair shop overseas, under the assumed name "Michael Westen", Rory had to go into hiding thanks to a chance encounter with I.R.A sympathizers. The resulting melee put him on 's radar.
It wasn't obvious until Moriarty pointed it out, but, once he did, the signs of an expert saboteur were unmistakable.
Moriarty figured out the most likely places to find Rory and tracked him down. After talking with him. felt comfortable with offering him a position with the Commandos. He quickly became best friends with Leonard Snart, a.k.a Captain Cold.
Flamethrowers aren't really good weapons to use in the battlefield, but Rory's weapon of choice, capable of firing flares, incendiary rounds, explosives and the like, is the exception.
He's more than capable of repairing/maintaining the specialized equipment of the Commandos, preventing acts of sabotage in their headquarters and jury-rigging vehicular instruments of destruction when the situation calls for it.
Of course, Rory prefers to rig things in his favor. Throw a wrench in the works. Analyze enemy assets (vehicles, personnel, factories, etc.) and turn them against themselves.
"Sabotage isn't about destroying machines."
"It is all about getting machines to destroy themselves. Sabotage is all about finding the flaws. All machines have them and the more complicated the machine the more flaws can be found."
"The best ones are the smallest, the simplest, the most easily overlooked."
"A lucky break can make a job easier but sabotage isn't about luck. It's about finding the flaws."
"And there is no machine on Earth as complicated or flawed as a human being."
Basically, Codename: Firefly's preference is to take down the enemy before they even set foot on the battlefield. He believes the ability to sew discord and confusion, to turn the people against each other with a few well-chosen words and actions... it's a beautiful thing.
