Description This is one of a series that I'm working on. The series is a real work in progress but here's the idea behind them:
I have always been fascinated by shapes and patterns and one of the earliest forms of artwork was cave paintings. Cave-dwelling man spewing colored liquid across the backs of their hands to form shapes of hands on cave walls in order to leave their marks on this earth. Eerily the first graffitti known in the universe. Very nifty stuff. Well, I was doodling around with the crude shape of a hand and really started to have some fun ideas springing up about making the shape fit other designs and how many other characters I could create using the form itself. So, here is the first one in the series: Mr. Space Beaver.
I have at least four more of these ready to go and I'm still churning out the ideas so maybe this will go somewhere.
I had planned on using these little digital versions as color studies for full-sized paintings. That will only happen if I can find a dealer willing to give me some hanging space in a local show or I get the demand from someone who wants to pay me for a real painting and not just a digital print. Who knows I may just submit it to a publisher as an art book when they're all done.
More to follow. Comments are welcome.
ENJOY!

Hella smart concept! This style reminds me of Nathan Jurevicius's stuff - otherwise known as the creator of Scarygirl.

Anyway, Space Beaver would have to be my character at this point

Ahhh, Jurevicius. Yeah, I really like his work and I'm glad that you're comparing him to me. He's like the first successful "all-around" illustrator to use Adobe Ilustrator almost exclusively and be recognized for his abilities. His style is awesome! Kudos for the comments!

Have you been up to date with his goings on? If not, I'd just like to let you know that he has a new mini figure series entitled "Mini Treehouse" and it's based around the creatures in the Scarygirl world. A must see IMO.
Cheers!

I just wanted to say Space Beaver Rules! I love the idea of using the shape of the hand too and maybe turning the set of drawings into a book or something. I love the colours in the piece, great work!

Great concept! I like all of them! keep'em coming. Obviously you have a very vivid imagination, to spin all this just with the shape of a hand.

I really love your style, I like this series as well. Keep up the good works. Which program do you use?

I use Adobe Illustrator. It's a great program and although I love some of the things you can do in Photoshop it's just not as quick and crisp as you can acheive in Illustrator. I also know that you can do some of the same stuff in FLASH but that program was dedicated to web design and animation, not illustration per se. Other opinions are vital as well. I'm not the only authority on these things! ;D
