Everyone else already said it: the texture of the fur is very striking. I would also add that the "expression" (as it were) is very good. I wonder what he's staring at?
The whiskers are also very cute.

Critique~
The fur is very detailed, really great that you can see every stroke. Picture overall looks too grey though. I'm assuming that the greyish fur is supposed to be white, it would have been better if you made those bits lighter to show that. It seems like you used white soft brush to edit it. It doesn't give such a good effect, in fact I think it would have been better if you just left it grey... :\ Because the soft edges look very strange and is vastly different from the sharp pencil strokes you used for the fur. Better way to edit this would have been to adjust the Levels/Brightness and Contrast in PS or GIMP. If it becomes too light, duplicate the layer and set it to multiply to dark the lines.
Another thing about this is the texture of some parts. The fur was captured nicely, but the dog's eye and nose end up having no texture. Making the eye shiny would make it look more like an eye, with that moist round smooth texture. Some of the fur, namely at the back of the dog's head is also a bit messily drawn.

Really like the texture and the shading. Not that detailed, but I think it's even better because it's more essential but nevertheless very expressive!
