Not exactly. The SMG configuration is simply a conversion of the rifle. The second (front) mag release is added as part of the SMG magwell adapter. The original (rear) one is just vestigial and remains there because it's part of the receiver (and of course allows converting back or canning for parts). The goal here is maximum parts compatibility, after all.
I suppose it's possible to take out the actual spring and lever, and/or for a bubba to cut the whole thing off, but that's an end-user's choice.

Very cool! Reminds me of Vladof and Dahl from Borderlands, but with its own original aesthetic. My favourites are the FFE3A3 and the FFE5
