I remember a class in collage (I HAD to leave my misspelled word in, it is way too subconscious!), I meant college, where we were asked to critique a piece in a Gestalt way. Keeping in mind the idea "Creative Block". I would first identify the pieces: Birds = freedom, movement, elusive. Headless = without sense of smell, sight or hearing (unable to), loss of thought (brainless), loss of identity (how we appear to others). Face (in the body) = the senses that are missing (due to lack of head) are kept inside, looking outward/from within, child-like (looks to me), innocent. Torn sleeve = struggle. Outreaching hands = helplessness, vulnerability. Monochromatic Grey = colorless, depression, foreboding.
I would have to say that the title of this piece is apropos. You've brought together all the elements. Sorry for rambling, but I was compelled to analyze this one, it screamed for it!! Fabulous piece!!!

I really like how dark this piece is. The colours emphasise the atmosphere very well.
It's a pretty interesting, surreal piece... Definitely makes you think, or at least, look things in a different way.

She needs time, is all, to come out. A lovely portrayal. Been feeling similarly lately, like on the edge of something but I don't know what.

Kind of like the pressure one feels from an impending thunderstorm ...

Yeah, barometric pressure...I think it's a seasonal thing and we respond to dormancy and growth in season. I decided to just go with it and make a batch of Halloween cards. Can't beat it, join it. And I got to play with crackle, which made me cackle.

Wow you are way more productive than me but what works for me is getting into my art room and tidying it up (it always needs to be tidied) usually by the end my fingers are itching to do something or the other one that works for me being a technique junkie is doing some backgrounds to cut up for atcs either using credit card technique or alcohol inks on acetate or something like that. Lastly there is always sally jean alexander abracadabra collage technique 1. list tasks on paper and tear up ie paint, magazine, text, paper, chalk, pastels, charcoal, pencil, stamp, scratch, wipe, ink, pattern 3d, write, photograph, smudge, draw, sand, surprise, etc 2. Pull them out and do them in the order you pull them out on your substrate. Have fun let me know if you want more info on the sally jean technique it comes from her book pretty little things. [link]

Oh I love sally jean's book! (But I still haven't mastered her soldering technique!) She ran a workshop in Tuscany this year that I would have killed someone to attend ...

I am going to a workshop in melbourne in march next year with susan lenart kazmer and laurie Mika who i cannot wait to meet. I hope you found some inspiration in the da files the collection you put together is lovely.

S-J's workshop was partucularly tempting, because it combined trawling the antique and flea markets in Tuscany with creating a personal shrine / reliquary chandelier.
Ooh I'm envious of your Melbourne workshop, too! Problem for us in the southern hemisphere is you usually have to fly for daaays to get anywhere where the cool stuff is happening.
