Kansas National Guard Museum, Forbes Field..I know kinda odd one, they never flew these.. But it was restored by the museum..
This is a McDonnell Douglas F-4D Phantom, confirmed MiG killer..
Flown by Brig Gen Steve Richie & Maj Larry Pettit..
It first flew on 11th Nov 1966, transferred Davis-Monthan 4th April 1989
Refurbished by 184th ARW KSANGΒ in 2004.

Anything that can be preserved should. It saddens me the way the museum bureaucracy in the US works and the now not so subtle movement to purge cultural and historical items that are not politically convenient.Β
I've seen a few things that needed to be preserved passed up and it saddens me. There were 6 F-4s for sale that I would have snatched up in a heartbeat if I had the money but they got crushed for scrap unfortunately. I see it more than I like to to think about.

I agree, I think from a UK view, that the U.S has a better set up than here.. The fight we have to save one example of an aircraft is horrendous and even then, it is often put outside.. Most are scrapped or sold, a prime example being the RAF Tristar Tankers, not one saved all sold.. No Jets from second Gen Jets onwards are in private hands to fly here, No Harrier, No Lightning, No Jaguar, the list is endless..
Only one place is set up properly for fast runs.. (Bruntingthorpe).
I know The USAF Museum has had a policy to save an example of everything they have used and I believe the Navy has as well there, here, its too late to do that.. Most examples of everything are gone forever.. No Halifax left.. I could list endlessly, but its not really the issue..
Aircraft (and other examples of hardware) should be saved, they live and feel alive well, do to me..
