Description
Once it was a workhorse for professionals, and it was present for studios and fashion photography. For its size and weight it soon earned the name "the Beast".
Mamiya RB67 series are full mechanic cameras but their clever system of locks and releases make them a complete analogue / mechanical computer.
I was about 14 or 16 when it appeared in the local photo store for a price of a really decent car. The shop was very privileged: far and near it was the only one to sell Hasselblads and Mamiyas, Rolleiflexes and the East German Jack-of-all-trade, Pentacon Sixes. These huge mid-format cameras were out of reach to everyone except a very few artist—and I mean real art photographers because these cameras were demanding to use, and very expensive to feed. As I took photographs since my age of 6 I often spent my time in front of the shop window and decided that once in the far future I will have a Hasselblad or Rolleiflex (or both)—but even if I cannot afford them I will have a Mamiya RB67ProS or a Yashica MAT 124G.
Now I own a Yashica MAT 124G instead of the highly priced cult-camera of Rolleiflex; and I own a decent set of Mamiya RB67 ProSD with several lenses, motorized backs etc. A dream came true. An interesting thing here, my fifth lens for the Mamiya, an often neglected and out-of-purists'-sight Mamiya Secor C 100-200 f/5.2 that I just received. (The reason of neglecting is simple: it is not a prime.) It is in pristine condition by the look, but I still wait for the first roll of test shots.
Well... Once in the time, some 15 or 20 years ago I saw a German semi and this sticker on the trailer's rear fender: "Damen, pass auf! Mein ist 17m lang!" This camera is really somewhat similar. Perhaps I'll make a t-shirt with this image and the text "Ladies, beware—mine is baby size! (26 inches and almost 8 lbs)"
This is my own work, and please respect this. Don't sell, lend, share or steal, blah blah. This image is darkly copyrighted. Ask me if you have funny ideas.
