Description
Sződ-Rákos-patak (don't even think to try to pronounce it! It's Hungarian after all) is a creek that comes to the surface about 3 km (2 miles) from my house as a minute tern to grow feed water to marvelous places! First of all, three lakes of my town with very special habitations. Natural springs and two other tributaries make it grow into a creek. One of the lakes has floating islands of reed—at least had them as nowadays most of these islands are moored by the roots. Then it runs through some gardens and this natural, almost unchanged area west from my town. Reaching the next settlement it feeds four fishing ponds, all of them are very romantic and they all look so natural even though they have dams that explain their existence—they are artificial. From there on, the creek has some tributaries and develops into a stream, and it runs to the scenic garden of the Arboretum of Vácrátót where it forms spectacular ponds, a lake and a mill drive. At the next stretch of land the stream grows a bit and separates into several branches to irrigate a quite picturesque and fertile land. On this plane there are cultivated lands and marshes with their naturally reconstructed fauna (most of them suffered some cultivation attempts). As the stream branches converge to the Danube most of the beds are joining again and also collect some new tributaries just to run into a gem of fishing lakes and scenic "gardens" that is beautifully presented here on DA by Csipesz and his Lakeland series . Then, after some 25 kms (18 miles) the stream runs into the river Danube, once again in a really scenic way. No wonder that locals are usually very fond of this Sződ-Rákos-patak.
The part depicted here is one of the least known segment of the stream. It runs on a muddy marsh here and a barely used, half-hidden road crosses over it. The road once served as an entrance to a now abandoned and half-ruined horse farm so its traffic is between nile and zero. I tried to approach the stream bed and discovered this road. Its bridge is an ugly but strong concrete passover that was made to be able to bear the weight of heavy trucks once supplied the farm. So I set up my beloved VDS 810 wooden field camera there and enjoyed that nobody could even ask a question. (Everywhere I appear with the 8×10" camera to shoot there are some people who feels the urge to talk with me, telling tales of their grandfather's cousin who once saw a photographer with such a camera loaded with glass plates, etc.) I loaded two sheets of Fomapan 400 and you can guess what happened, if you take a look to this image.
This image is my own work, taken with my VDS 810 field camera to 8×10" Fomapan 400 sheet film. I developed it in D76 and scanned from the negative. This picture is copyrighted. Please don't claim it yours and don't misuse or otherwise breach my rights. Thank you!
