Description
This is my Hamstonia-tree 04. I tested some other version (So 3 of courseIn my first try I thought about a painted version like deep-canvas (Disneys Tarzan) it looks very
fine but in my opinion it doesnΒ΄t work with a real hamster. The second one was very realistic but realism is
not very cute. This is my 4th version made with Z-Brush
and Cinema 4D. ln MY opinion it looks nice but my girlfriend told me that this picture reminds her
of an very skinny and ugly Cheerleader with green pompoms
I think it is not perfect jet but I like it! Do you have any opinions? Critique is ALWAYS welcome!!!
At the moment I incline to a version which is very simplified like in a Hello Kitty animation...

Some minor moving of tree branches would aid in making it look less like a deranged cheerleader. XD But I'm not really liking the purple/lime green. Maybe try a light pink/yellow combination, or light pink/white.

It does look like a tree from the Lorax
I LOVE the leaves. I really do. They're so alive. But the trunk not so much.

"I speak for the trees, for trees have no tongue" -the Lorax
Yes, my first impression was that of a truffula tree. I like the texture of the poofs and of the grass. I think the tree needs some sort of bark-like texture and I agree with the others who say it shouldn't be purple.
I feel the colors should be more real and the shapes more simple.
But then again, I liked seeing Herr Hildezart in his realistic looking Hamstonia.

It's very Dr. Seuss! I love it! The only piece of advice I'd give was to make the actual tree base a little more tree looking...like texture wise. The green poofs look very realistic (if thats possible, lol).

It's cute, but the colors are a little intense... I would soften them, especially the purple. And make it less shiny.

It's a truffula tree!
You know- from Dr. Suess's "the Lorax"?
looks just like one.
How hard is it to do that?

hoschie In reply to Yvonne15 [2008-03-15 11:09:10 +0000 UTC]
Thank you so much
Hmm how can I describe the challenging of that...
It is hard, really and it is even harder if you want to make it look cute without copying something...

hihi, knuffig!
Hooray for Hamstonia !

The models themselves look very good- I think the tree as such could be used for Hamstoria any time
I'm wondering about the colour scheme, though The hamsters are commonly associated with autumn- gathering supplies, preparing for winter, etc.- so I thought that perhaps a set of autumnal, pastel colours would be the best for your project
Browns, reds, yellows, oranges, light greens- wouldn't they make the leaves and the lawn look more lively, while keeping a warm, cute impression? ^^
Oh, by the way: as far as the inspiration is concerned, you shouldn't miss 's gallery! She is a genius when it comes to using right colours, able to make any scenery look adorable- and to avoid any excessive brightness or intensity at the same time

I think i will work in pastel colors ( no grey or brown) like the photographies of Herr Hildezart.
Thanks for the link. I visited her gallery and I like the color work very much !

There's something about that front root that makes the tree look more like a tree monster... though the neon pink color of the trunk and the neon green leaves does not help matters in that regard.
Maybe extend the front root out a bit, making it look more like a tree's roots and less like a warped foot. Smooth its edges as some of them look really warped, twisted and seem to end abruptly. It might just be the angle from which you rendered it too...
When ditching the neon color scheme, I'd like to suggest that you again try a beige/wood color for it, sticking to toon type colors (think something more like disney's tarzan, in color scheme/pallette -- I think you were on the right track there)keep it really simplified). Same for the green pom pom leaves. Put some variation of color in it for depth and texture. I think the tree trunk needs that far more than the leaves do.
Anyway, hope that helps
I like the styling and as many said above, it reminds me of Doctor Seuss.
