Can't really pin it like that, depends on what you want and where you want it, tides, location etc.....some places 1/30 works, other times 10 seconds.

Well that I know silly. I was referring to a balance between movement and detail. My first instinct when I started shooting waterscapes was long exposures. But I really enjoy the detail that is shown while shooting around the 1sec range +/-. One day I'll have filters so I can actually control when I use the ss too :-P
