Description
EDIT : Seems people didn't like the tree on the right, so different comp and slightly different processing.BETTER? Honest crits please.
a Tree so photogenic you could swear it grew on that spot in that way with the hopes of becoming an iconic spot for landscape photography in South Africa...which it most probably will.
This little guy is atop a massive granite boulder in the Richtersveld National Park which is on the border of Namibia and in the heart of one of the world's most inhospitable and diamond rich areas.
I played around with a set of Lee sunset filters I bought a while back and I really liked the effect, especially considering the boring light.

Quite an amazing photo. There's something quite special about the light in this image. This could easily be a Marc Adamus photo, if it had the orton effect in the background, but I still prefer it this way!

hmmm, interesting what you say about orton on the bg. it has a slight orton on the rocks in the fg. Thanks for the comment

Honest input You say.. okay
It feels slightly better now, but still.. Those two competing horizontal elements, the tree top, and the rock outcrop that effectively sits "on top" of it, keep screaming at me. Loudly. It was the first thing that popped in the eye the first time I saw it, and it won't go away. Everything else looks right on, but those two.. I dunno.
At the moment though, my brain seems to operate in a rather vegetative mode, so I'm in no position to offer any sane and constructive suggestions. I suppose we can't just return there and blow that rock up, it is a National Park after all, and such.

Very amazing shot, loved how the sun is at a point giving a different color to the sky, only thing I would of loved to seen the tree closer, it looks very unusual

This reminds me of the Arizona/California desert I live in. It's crazy how similar two places so distant from one another can be.

I was drawn to the other shot, it had something mystical about the composition, balance and feel that was really unique.

I prefer this one dude, nice job !!
Much more clearer and the focal point is now soley on that tree. Creates a much stronger impact on a whole. Nice work.

The tree is an awesome focal point but the tree and background seem too close together in my liking. I love how you shot into the sun on the other hand, the best sort of illumination I've realised lately. Great job on this mate.

This is beautiful. I feel sorry for the poor tree, out there in all the dryness alone... But that may be placing my own dislike of deserts on something that is perfectly fine there.

Great location, fantastic tree. I look at it and wonder how the tree could have been separated from the background a bit...but I'm not sure how.
Still, the image really works though, good stuff

The filter seemed to do a nice job on this particular shot, the warm light has lifted it, and that tree has now become famous, haha.

Hougaard. This is stunning. I love everything about this shot. Nothing that could be helped; but would you agree that some different lighting on the tree that would separate it in detail a little from the background would be sick!
