Very late reply, but do you sketch lines at all first, or do you just slap color down and keep refining until it's this beautiful? I'm inclined to think you do what I just described.. but if there's a line sketch underneath I'd be interested to know!

ill usually put down a few basic lines, just to establish the placement of the figure (make sure not hinging important goes off the page) and ill put in the big areas of color right after that. I'ts hardly a sketch underneath; more like simple notes/guidelines to myself.

Sure:
1.) Establishing value shapes, basic color, and linework for the complicated parts
2.) Color correction
3.) Introduction of secondary light source
4.) Beginning to refine the face, building up the forms through value
5.) Continuing to build up the forms through value contrasts, refining said forms
6.) Last push of value, adding background texture, final color adjustments, and...done!
