Description
Here is the Self-Portrait i have been showing bits and pieces of recently. I can't think of what else to do with it, So I will call it done. Any critiques and comments are appreciated. All is hand-painted. I tried to keep it rather loose for the background and clothes. I also tried to use Rembrandt's 'windmill' technique, and I think it turned out rather well.
A photo of my face was used as reference, but the hair, lighting, clothes, and beard are from imagination. (I do have a beard, but i didnt have one in the photo reference i used. haha)
Here are some high-res detail shots of this painting: [link]
Thanks for looking!

Thanks! that was my goal. Rembrandt's windmill technique is the organization of value patterns of the foreground subject on the background into four groups: light values on dark values, dark on light, light on light, and dark on dark. He did it with his windmill painting: [link]
you can see he did that with each of the four blades of the windmill. It results in the object sitting more convincingly in space with the background.
