So Nice...
The robot head design (our future head) is really nice. The form of its face is simple and perfect. I don't know about having all its circuitry so easily accessible but man I want one that looks like that.

I just can't help but thinking that this is a before and after, which makes it all the more tragically beautiful in my mind. You've given the robot (android?) such a feminine quality to it, as well as a subtle sadness in the eyes, as though it is reflecting upon the history of its existence, once as a beautiful woman now a cold shell of what can barely be called life.
Intention or no, story or no, I think it's a wonderful invoker of the imagination. Great job with this.
(I'm also sorry to see that the novel didn't reach its Kickstarter goals. I would have loved to see where that would have gone.)

Hi Kisaoda; fear not, the book is still being written and will hopefully be published before the end of the year. I will be launching a new Crowdsourcing campaign on Pubslush this weekend, as I think Kickstarter was too general for this kind of project. If people are interested in supporting this by pre-ordering that would be fab. I am offering signed prints of the art (by Houston) as well as signed copies of the book. I'm sure I can throw in some other goodies as well.
The above illustration kicks off Part 2 of the book, which looks at the future utopian or dystopian scenarios that could arise based on the choices society makes in regards to technological and genetic advancements as well as to how it reacts when not everyone embraces the changes in the same way.
The first part builds a foundation upon which to develop this narrative, looking back through history at how certain societies managed to succeed and why the explosion of innovation started when it did, where it did. Houston has done a fab job at the cover artwork and the internal art for Part 1 as well.
Really please by all of the positive comments the artwork has received; Houston - are you going to put up the other two illustrations in the Janus trilogy?

First off I do really like this, but not just from an art standpoint, but also from a philosophical basis. Here's a few points this brought up for me to consider.
A transition point between a multitude of states of being - both the same as they are different - and unknown which state exists where. I see comments discussing robotics and the personification of human ideals, but that begs the question to ponder further on 3 major fronts.
1) Humanity is but an organic robot in itself. Based on an organic electro-chemical system yes, but a system nonetheless. Are we really that different in regards to this basis because flesh and bone are not wire and metal? We've already integrated technology into the very fiber of our being today so what makes further integration into our bodies and minds than we already have so foreign and inhuman? A concept to ponder.
2) A decision between evolution and a means to a continued progression or a stagnation upon one state of being. The water of this mentality is muddied once again with the prospect existing for both states in both a being of flesh and a being of metal. Where does evolution lie and is this really the necessity to seek out? We've all desired an endgame since birth, for one desired effect to follow a cause, what are we really desiring to seek? What do we really want? To find what we seek or to always keep looking to leave the path to be ever unfinished?
3) Is the transition point really all that exists or is there more? Are there other options and courses of being outside of progress or contentment and where do these ideals really exist in reality once more? There are never only 2 options in life, only what we choose to conceive for our understanding so what is the conceptual basis of it all that this begins and follows?
In understanding - not knowing - this can we really see the similarities and differences between the proverbial "man and machine". It just comes down to our ability to "compute".
