This piece is wonderful ^.^ thank you so much for sharing it with me. It's my favorite of the three you posted.
To start, my first advice is that when you are scanning in or photoing in your work crop it to be perfectly rectangular and crop it better to where your notebook doesn't show up. I know that's not the emphasis but it would definitely help make the piece look more professional online. That being said, To make it more brilliant you might invest in photo-shop and turn up the contrast or brightness of the piece? Just to make it more crisp online. [ If you're into that sort of thing ^.-]
The overall composition is great. I like the placement of just about everything and the depth field is nice and proportional. I hate looking at pieces that don't have a thorough understanding or distance. I love that while this is part of your destruction series there is something cute about it like you mentioned. Without that kids in the piece, I don't feel like you have a piece at all to be honest. They make the view emotionally invested and the overall piece palatable because everyone is afraid of losing everything. i like their age, and how regardless of everything they are holding hands uniting together - which is what we all SHOULD do. [sort of makes me play on words everything I needed to learn I learned in kindergarten.]
The shading techniques are nice and dynamic and I like how there as so many different textures. The only part I think could use a little work is the explosions off in the distant hills. Its a little hard to tell where they stop and where the hills begin. Maybe this is due to lack of color or that their shading is so similar to one another. If your lines weren't so nice ^.^ I would be a be confused lol.
I love the sky and the way you decided to shade it. I like that as mini meteors race toward the grown the entire sky seems disturbed by speed and time. You can SEE the air moving which is great that you didn't just layer over a plain sky.
Wonderfully Dynamic piece.. to be honest I don't see a butt load to work on just a bit of polishing.

and yes i agree with you on the few things you listed, but most of everything stems from me being a little impatient, especially when it comes to shading (as you can see by everything being basically just a mid-tone)
