So here's my entry for Tg111theAwesome 's contest to redesign her gemsona! I would've scanned it but it's really late where I am so I wasn't feeling up to it.

Anyway! The guidelines given stated that the eye colour, hair colour, weapon and gem placement needed to stay the same, but anything else was fair game. TG also said that she preferred loose, flowey ( Haha I made a funny) garments.

I decided to look for characters in pop culture who fit this outfit description. I ended up looking to an anime that I used to (and probably should not have) watched in third grade, InuYasha. Because if those clothes aren't loose and flowey ( I've done this twice now? Really?) then I don't know what are. I mean, look at them.

Then I thought that one design wasn't enough and I needed another, more modern design to counter the antiquity of the "Anime Hero". Immediately "Life is Strange"'s Max Caulfield came to mind, as an angsty teenager in an art school stereotypically has a looser, flowey-er ( Three times? It's not funny anymore.) feel to it.

I also decided to redesign the staff, (because nothing's stopping me!)which felt to common and generic to me. I tried three different concepts, a wood staff, which is basically a glorified stick and a perfect starter for an anime hero (*nudgenudgewinkwink*), a metal staff, modeled after Teen Titan's Go's Robin's staff, and can deliver electric shocks, and a weird heart-ish magic staff, which can complete the collection of any angsty teenager's (*nudgingandwinking intensify*) magical weapon set.

Along with this came a few hairstyles. Because why not?

Finally, some gem cuts. The rules said the placement had to stay the same, so I put in some gem cut suggestions, including rounded, pear, heart, and cushion.

Finally, you may be wondering why the designs are all different colours. Well, that's because the type of Topaz wasn't specified in any of the designs! There are plenty of types, so I chose to play with some new ones. The rounded is a Paraiba Topaz, the pear is a Kahki Topaz, the Heart (modelled by the angsty teenage art student) is Baby Pink Topaz, the cushion is Poppy Topaz, Anime Hero is Blazing Red Topaz, and the hair models are the default Honey Topaz. This was especially hard to do since the hair colour had to stay and it doesn't exactly go with the rest of the character.

If and when I lose this contest, I'll recolour the hair, move the gems and add new weapons to sell these guys as gemsona adoptables.

I accidentally X'd out my tab while typing this up earlier, which drove me nuts since it's is super long.
