Description
I'm kind of feeling guilty nowOk this is a quick sketch-study for someone at VHR. Sliding to a stop, a black reining horse.
Please do critique the anatomy! Haven't used any references, and... I feel this one could be a good learning experience

You can do, this is very old now and I can see a million mistakes myself, but if you really want to, I'm sure it would still be helpful to some degree

Amazing sketch!
Er..since you said you're gonna scrap this..I was wondering if you would let me use this as a reference for a character on an equine rpg please?
It's entirely up to you and I'll put a link back to your dA account(have to anyway).

i think the hindlegs should be at more of an angle to the ground for and it could just be me but i think the front legs seem a little long.

I feel the belly should be rounder, other than that, if you did this without refs I hate you. (not really)

This is beautiful. The anatomy is flawless. I must ask, what did you use to draw this and do you by any chance know where I could get the materials?

Thank you very much I drew it with a wacom tablet (amazon) and photoshop 7.0 (...not sure where you get that, but there is a new one out... google it) on my computer which is a rusty old tiny-monitored useless thing, don't get one like it (but the screen IS calibrated which helps!)

Make sure the back of the horse, more or less, the entire topline, is rounded like a c but in the direction of ^ so that the hindquarters really are tucked up underneath. This is, by the way, beautiful.

JoSav [2007-01-15 00:04:47 +0000 UTC]
The hind is definitely on the weak side, not compact enough, muscles aren't tight enough and the angle makes it look like there's no weight in its behind while that's where the concentration should be because the horse's speed is in a reigning stop concentrated in the behind causing it to slide underneath the horse. She doesn't seem balanced this way. The legs ought to be further apart, too, otherwise the horse will topple over. In the sense of collecting itself in such a stop, the back should be a bit rounder as well. One front leg seems longer than the other, but I'm not 100% sure on that one. The stomach could use a bit more rounding and in general the horse doesn't seem as compact as I'm used to seeing in QHs.
Still, this is one of your better 'rough' pieces. Would be a shame to see it go lost in scraps as it has a lot of movement and energy and I love that face.
I'm not sure if I used the correct terms considering horse muscles so forgive my English if you don't really understand what I'm trying to say. (what a lovely blaze this one has, by the way!)

Don't you go using those evil little fingers on "Edit Deviation"!
I think you have worse pieces on your gallery than this. Granted, it's not the model piece of great conformation or breed type. But it's got great atmosphere, sense of space, dynamic feel and pretty styles matched with beautiful colours.
I'm not going to comment this on greater detail and I'll leave discussion about anatomy and conformation aside as is your wish. But don't be a and scrap this!
(see my cunning plan to use all dA emotes at least once?)
