Description
This is what you get when you take two characters you love so much, out of the trappings of Disney Celluloid and turn them into actual Human Beings.Because we live in a real world where the princess doesn't always fall for the prince. Because, in the end a redeemable villain is so much more attractive than a two-dimensional "Mister Goody Shoes".
And in the end, simply because these two people are "Yin" and ''Yang".
This also serves as an illustration to my story, which is still a work in progress.

Firstly, I wholeheartedly agree with your description!
I think this is my favorite of all your Fresme pieces. This is incredibly beautiful. I absolutely love how you drew them here. I love Claude's hands and the rings on them. I love his expression--it's wonderful to see him looking peaceful. I love Esmeralda's face, the way she's cradling him.
With this picture, you've made two of my favorite characters human for me.
Thank you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind, thoughtful comment.
These two continue to tug at my heartstrings so much. In my stories and my art I strive for a sense of balance between the two of them, because I believe they are a perfect yin/yang combo.
What can I say? They are my Muses! Esmeralda because of her fiery disposition, her "What you see is what you get" approach and Frollo because of the fact that he is SO passionate, despite thinking himself above these basic human emotions.
You are more than welcome!

I cannot believe, as much as I worship this art, I have never commented on it. I know I need to weigh in with something profound about composition and colour and all the things that much more erudite people than me have already said, but words fail me. All I can say is that this work speaks to me on many levels. First the power of your sheer talent as an artist, secondly the subject matter of this couple, which YOU alone have breathed life into for me, and thirdly for the strength of character and beauty in their poses. There is a protectiveness about Emse, and that elusive vulnerability in Frollo that you often question. In this moment, you have captured the perfect balance of "I will protect him, I love him, I will fight for him" and "I need her, she understands, she gets me".
See, I told you I couldn't express myself very well over this. It's just too beautiful too look at - like the sun.

You are such a sweetheart.
I think we can both conclude that you are one of the most erudite ( lovely word that, it sounds like licking a nipple) persons I know. I bask in the glowing glory of your praise.
Claude and Esme, as rare of a pair they are, continue to be the spark that ignites my imagination. I've never envisioned a pair so starkly or acutely as those two. They breathe on their own, if you understand what I mean. I just guide them gently and they teach me things about myself, strangely enough. Frollo has taught me to think before words leave the confinement of my lips and Esmeralda has taught me to harken with a keen inner sense when the outer stimuli are too overwhelming.
They are my Yin/Yang. A little bit of me in them both and a lot of them both in me.
I prefer looking at the moon. It's steady, ethereal and has an otherworldly profound pulling effect on the planet that is my mind.
Thank you!

I've been meaning to comment on this one for a while now. This is one of my absolute favorites by you. The way that you have drawn both Frollo and Esmeralda is stunning. As always, I admire your proficiency in drawing textiles, as well as your use of color. I like how you use that kind of purple for the shading on Claude - it gives him a kind of sickly pale glow. Esmeralda is absolutely gorgeous in this. I'm especially fond of her lips.
Really, I could go on and on about all the things I love about this. Once again, thank you for sharing your work with us.

Ahh, thank you so much. This one is dearest to me, because it accompanies one of my stories. This was a first serious try at drawing realistic people, wrinkles and all. I've got an outline for another one like this, but daaaayum! Coloring in this style eats up your time liek whoa!
The coloring was intentional, because in the story, Claude gets the ultimate reality check, and his conscience and nightmares don't allow for sleep anymore. Poor lamb is on the end of his tether. (Which is where Es comes in, brave little lion that she is!)

Ah, yes, I think I remember reading that story. I also really love your writing. :-P Gosh, I am such a terrible lurker! I can eat through 10 fanfictions a day, but I almost never leave a comment or a favorite. Bah, hopefully I'll get better about that when I have more time. And I can imagine that the coloring would be time consuming! The effort pays off though.

I am simply loving the story that goes with this picture. I know we all love Dom Claude and how quite intense he is, but Sub Claude works so well here. Poor, guy, but the truth really does hurt; he needed to be shown. I love the look on Esme's face, she has such deep empathy for him, seeing he genuinely is upset for his past. They truly are Yin and Yang, complimenting and completing each other perfectly.

Exquisite! I could sit here and gush about all the details, but it's the whole picture, the effect, that I love most. Unlikely, angsty romance gets me every time. I really love Esmeralda's look of conflicted sympathy. It's so subtle.
Again, what's crazy is how alike we think. A couple months before you wrote that chapter, I had a very similar idea. We are one. . . . Of course, my version would have been more ironic and acerbic. My view of human nature is just too bleak, alas. But I still love what you do with these characters.

It is amazing, isn't it? These two work on so many levels for me, honestly.
I think sooner or later, with these two, you're going to hit that mental cross-roads. And I think it's really really brave of him to dare to admit that she is essentially right and he is wrong.
The question now of course is...What are you going to do about it Master Frollo?
Maybe we should team up and write an in depth story about the mental trappings of these two Yin-Yangs. ( I have so many lovely theories on why this man is who he is!)

What, indeed!
Holy mackerel, we must collaborate! We just need to find some division-of-labor principle and a plot we roughly agree upon, and we're off to the races. Something a bit longer than a one-shot, with just a few long chapters, very intense and concentrated. Would you ever consider accepting private messages at FF.net or finding some other means of conferring one-on-one?
Of course, you may know at this point I only do the kid, or at least teen-friendly stuff. I really enjoy the psychology and emotional conflict, which appeals to every age bracket.

I totally agree. If we work together, say do a chapter each, we can also exchange tips and tricks and beta each other's work, if you know what I mean. But with the idea I have ( actually it's horror/adventure/drama, we-re looking at at least four chapters, if not more)
Actually, I do have a wonderful idea that I've been itching to write and research. Something about boy!Frollo ( the drawing of young Master Frollo fits with that idea and might give you a small idea).A full deeper explanation as to why this man turned out the way he did. It would fit the teen-friendly stuff, no ah..romance in sight.
Private messaging would work, you can also find me on hotmail with the same name. Just send me an e-mail, I'll tell you what I've been thinking about. *happy dance*.

It's not so much sadness, as a grim determination to make it all better for him. I don't know whether you've read the little story that goes along with this (shameless self-plug), but she, in short, has the role of his conscience. That girl has a back-bone of steel, and she is just learning to harness it with him.
And this Frollo? Has just admitted that he's Wrong. She's pushed him that far.

This is the most beautiful picture ever, the deepest pictures ever and the most touching in any case!
It has a vulnerable, sad aura, but it is still so full of hope! Along with your story, it is the most perfect, meaningful Fresme artwork there is!The colours alone are worthy of worship - Her colours seem to warm his cold ones. And although he crouches like a frightened child he seems to trusts her protective and caring embrace!
