Description
Learning AED and Hands-only CPR !
-----------------------------------------------------------
This institution I'm currently work in have foreign workers who come from Philippines. Under our country's law, they are required to be educated with various care-giving knowledge including first-aid. Unfortunately, many of them had a lot of difficulties understand Mandarin, and need English teaching materiel. I therefore end up preparing quite a bit of said teaching materiel for them. I learned a lot in the process too. Sadly we don't have the Resusci Anne or AED. We end up using dummy objects like pillow and a small cardboard box with written button for the practice.

That sounds like fun~ CPR lessons were really fun with actual dummies! Have you gotten to infant CPR yet? That'll be pretty hard with an actual baby if I think about it.
Anyway, Fluttershy and Sunset looks so adorable~!

Yeah! CPR lessons with dummy actually went quite well and many people were having fun that day. 😀
We didn't go for actual infant CPR though. All the care receiver in my workplace are all adults, so in the institution's perspective, there aren't really the need for learning that.

I thought defibrillating devices were used to stop fibrillation, not to jumpstart the heart - that's done mechanically by compressing the chest.

HowXu In reply to Raid-Ho [2019-07-21 15:26:33 +0000 UTC]
You're right. Our First-aid tutor specifically explain that the purpose of defibrillator is to stop a person's heart, not reviving it. This is because while having fibrillation, the person's heart is contracting improperly and making it difficult for the blood to be pumped out. This even interfere with CPR, making CPR very inefficient. Defibrillator is designed to release a shock to stop the heart from contracting, which allow CPR to actually pump blood out of the heart and let the blood flow to the vital organs. This is why using a defibrillator will greatly increase the chance of survival.

In every First Aid certification (Every 4yrs) I've done, someone has had their pants slip down during compressions.

Unless it´s a (cute) animal, in which case she sucker-punches Death itself and the animal comes back to life right away.

If the medics don't arrive in 15 minutes we are legally allowed to harvest their organs. I just hope Fluttersky doesn't cut off the face of the training dummy again, those things cost a lot.

I´ve heard of a hospital that has a freely accessible playlist consisting only of songs with the right rhythm for CPR.

I've heard the Bee Gees song "Stayin Alive" is one of them. In the US it's still well known enough and easy to remember because of the context that it's the go-to when I've done training.

I have to wonder if the Bee Gees did that on purpose.

Yeah, and Another One Bits the Dust is also good, I´ve heard.
But imagine asking people to sing this when you´re trying to save another person´s life...
