October Monthly Community Challenge: Haunted.
Many of our characters have witnessed, experienced, or done things that linger on their mind, haunting their waking moments or their fitful sleep.

As much as he may snarl and snap at those who would press him about his oaken hide, as much as he may damn the prejudice and ill-treatment of the afflicted within Stonehaven, Helfysir recognizes the twisted satisfaction it provides him. Punishment for what and who he is grants him a sick sort of reprieve from the phantoms that haunt his mind. He is no better than those that would damn him for his unwanted gift. He's no saint among sinners. Though so little can can make him bleed these days, he can still taste the blood on his teeth every time he licks their points. The pain of bruises and cracked bones offers some strange penance for the burdens of his past and a welcome distraction from the hidden wounds reopened by the recent loss of a complicated enemy.

Present demands of the Afflicted and the Acolytes offer ample excuse for him to seek even more of this proverbial drug when there is no one to provide it for him. Not all of Khepra's Teeth are out of reach, after all, and these are still sharp enough to test the invincibility of his flesh.
