August Monthly Community Challenge: Tether.
What ties your wolf to the island? Perhaps it is a personal crusade, or even another wolf? Each has something that grounds them, that connects them to the fate of Almos.

Helfysir
There had been a loss of something shortly after the ambush. A loss of mindfulness and patience. A loss of some slim hope he’d held onto. He’d grown tired of death, tired of the seasonal reaping. The anger and the fear. The small light he’d harbored within himself had been snuffed out by the bloodshed he inflicted on his own kind. Helfysir hadn’t realized just how badly he needed someone to keep him from tipping over the edge. A tether to rationality and joy. [MCC: 84 words]

Despite the growing darkness and the building tensions between the packs of Almos, Helfysir continued on with his duties. Although he managed to work well enough with others, they were never let close. Even old friends found themselves gently pushed further and further away. One, however, somehow managed to make herself an exception to the rule. Though not close, he could at least bear to be in her presence and even enjoy it often enough. [AC: 77 words]

Ysenlin
It wasn’t as though he was a new acquaintance. He’d been personally known to her family almost since the birth of her children and she’d been especially grateful for the guidance he provided her son when he was young. Lately, however, he also proved helpful to Ysenlin herself. His glacial rage and determination made facing her fears a little easier. A tether to reality when she so often sought the comfort of joyful fiction and dreams. [MCC: 76 words]

As ever, Ysenlin mostly kept her head down. She pulled her weight within the pack and kept an eye on her family as best she could, but sometimes she wondered what it mattered. She wasn’t the worst in her trade, but she wouldn’t claim she was the best, either. Outside of mending, she often felt that the best she could provide anyone was a distraction in story or game.
Funny then, how a gruff Afflicted could make her feel differently without trying. [AC: 82 words]
