May Monthly Community Challenge: Pureblood.
Not every wolf is one, but most wolves know of their origin. Some consider it an honour to know their lineage so precisely and others revere the trait for its supposed inborn power. Others still couldn’t care less.

The attack on the Kol patrol had been beyond satisfying for Helfysir. Spilling the blood of the northerners and leaving an everlasting mark on one of them proved to be incredibly cathartic. For months, years maybe, he advocated for sense and reason. Brazen warfare would not get them the answers they needed. But, now that he had a taste of vengeance, something in the Ironhide had changed. Something in him cared less for answers and craved more for an end. He found the sensation invigorating and even the chills brought on by the cool mountain water paled in comparison. [Helfysir’s AC; 99 words]

While she knew there was little reason to worry over the old warrior’s physical health, Ysenlin found herself compelled to follow Helfysir after he left Varnas and Tain with the other menders. Something seemed off about him. There’d been an unusual sharpness to his gaze and a coiled tension in his shoulders. The intensity of it left her concerned and she had every intention of getting to the bottom of it where the problem could be truly soothed. [Ysenlin AC; 78 words]

Some days, when the wind is right and the snowmelt seeps over iron-rich stones, the taste of the water can change. Some days, it tastes a little like blood- the pure blood of the mountain. The notion brings lineage to mind and the importance some wolves place in certain bloodlines. Personally, he finds the notion to be a bored wolf’s pastime. Why should a wolf long dead, their blood so diluted, matter at all? Ysenlin’s appearance is fortuitous. Given her history with particular sorts of wolves, maybe she could offer another perspective and more insight. [Hel’s MCC; 95 words]

The question she’s presented upon catching up to him is unexpected. Why would Hel be thinking of pureblooded wolves now of all times? She doesn’t question it too deeply. Maybe some thought connected to the subject was the cause for his earlier intensity. She offers her insight freely and explains that history is important. While she doesn’t know if a connection to the elders grants protection or power, there is still an advantage in knowing one’s ancestors. All the better to be aware of their mistakes and avoid repeating them. [Vashti MCC; 90 words]
