Note: At this time, I don't believe there is a way to add a preview image using Sta.sh Writer, if anyone has any information please let me know! ♥
I like being comprehensive.
Thanks to ~BarbecuedIguana for pointing out that if you use Sta.sh Writer to post a literature deviation it does not have the Download File button or any of the format buttons! ♥
I swear I haven't been sitting idly[at least all the time]!
August 4th, 2012: Sta.sh Writer has undergone a face lift and a few changes so this tutorial has as well!

I just wondered why the literature I wrote became a journal instead.

Sorry for the slowness! I'm not sure what happened, but you can change the category once something is posted. When you go to edit it (if it's still a journal) make sure to go to the "edit witch sta.sh" page.

You might have a stray html tag that isn't properly closed. The easiest fix might be to bold the entire text then unbold it, then go back and re-bold the specific thing you want bold. However if that doesn't work while you're editing the journal in sta.sh, hit "ctrl" + "e" and it will show all the codes, it might be a bit hectic, but just search for the tag that doesn't have a at the end of the text you want bold and add it.

I am having a problem with the SELECT CATEGORY part of the sta.sh. It keeps giving me the choice of 'My Journal' or 'Journal Portal'. There is a search bar where you can choose your category, but it won't let me submit unless I choose My Journal or Journal Portal.
The deviation is a literature piece and it is no way a journal submission. Any advice about this?

Well, a friend of mine on DA created a pic for my FF and I pasted on there and I found out that if you use a pic that isn't yours, it becomes a journal entry. It's so weird. *shakes head*

That makes so much sense. I guess the same goes for emotes as well. Thanks for the tip-off.

Yeah, that's kind of crappy.... BUT, I think I figured out a way around that, LOL! Check out my deviation (don't have to read it; just check the some of the pictures/links in the story and it's category at the bottom where artists comments is).
I came up with a cheap trick: Type the literature you wanna submit into dA in that Sta.sh Writer (add all your fancy stuff as you would in a journal entry), but DON'T submit it! Just submit a "phony deviation": Go to Submit Art > Enter Text. Then, type some crap in there like "a." Click OK. Select the category you want and submit it as an untitled deviation. Now, edit that phony deviation in Sta.sh Writer! Copy/paste all the stuff you put in your Sta.sh literature document into the phony deviation (don't forget to copy/paste the title, LOL) and update the phony deviation.
Now, you can delete the original literature Sta.sh file, LOL! That's how I did it.....

You mean see the formatting as you're typing?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
HugQueen In reply to Anime-lover-on-fire [2013-06-29 17:45:27 +0000 UTC]
Hm, well it should pretty much show everything as you type. You can use the same shortcuts as in other word processors [bold, italics, underline, etc] and it should show up as you type. As far as deviations go, you have to drag and drop them into what you're writing otherwise it only shows the thumbcode while you're typing.

I like your tutorial.
Is there a limit to the size of the file because a window keeps popping up saying the file has exceeded the 64kb limit? Is there a way around this?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
HugQueen In reply to themikefest [2013-06-10 01:17:34 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!
There is a 64kb limit [I just found this out myself the other week too. I had forgotten it existed] but I don't believe there is any kind of work-around though.

I apologize for not replying earlier. I found a way. Hit the edit button and switch to HTML mode. That allowed me to upload my file which ended up being 84kb.

Thank you! Hm, well where about are you getting stuck up? When you go to sta.sh writer's page?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
GraysWolves In reply to HugQueen [2013-05-01 21:13:11 +0000 UTC]
I stuck when I'm trying to submit art and it gives me the opition of using sta.sh. So when I click on it brings me to the the page but it keeps on recycling between the login of Sta.ah (according to the ULR) and some other page. Thus leaving me with a blank screen, expect for the Sta.sh logo in the top left corner.

HugQueen In reply to GraysWolves [2013-05-05 02:39:38 +0000 UTC]
Hm, that is weird. They have changed the actual submit art page, to be formatted more like sta.sh, so you should be able to just submit it that way. I'm guessing it might be a glitch if it brings you to a blank page. :/

You have to hit the "submit to deviantart" which will bring you to a final page where you can choose your category and such [and won't submit it to dA until you hit "submit now" button again].
