did you do the shades and lights on a different layer? i blurr them with guassian on about 4... to make the colors blend more...

Did you see my Walkthrough ? I did blur the shadow and highlight layers at different levels. also the shadows for hair are done on different layers as well, because I don't want to blur that detail. What you did differently than I do is start off with a gradient as a map for shadow placement. I had done it before on the backend, but was less than thrilled with the result. Doing it first is a lot better!
