Very inventive and very very well done nice speed lines.

Thanks! The speed lines used to be hard until someone showed me an EASY way to do it! I couldn't believe how easy it was!

how is that? secret?

Fill the canvas with whatever color you want, add noise, then make a selection 1px wide the length of the canvas and then free transform and stretch it. Viola! Speed Lines. BTW If you select more than 1 px you just have to stretch more. That is all.

o.o I think I understand thanks.
Do you know of actions? I know a good trick myself.

hulkdaddyg In reply to whiteknight222 [2010-03-24 12:30:02 +0000 UTC]

I guess that could be programmed as an action.

whiteknight222 In reply to hulkdaddyg [2010-03-24 23:27:20 +0000 UTC]

Ah so you do know of them, see I made an action that sets up a 300 dpi page at 50 percent opacity for sketching and underneath it open up an ink and color layer with guides. Very cool once I learned them.

I have quite a few actions programmed. It's essential for my inking with the pen tool.

wow can you give some examples?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hulkdaddyg In reply to whiteknight222 [2010-03-25 00:00:07 +0000 UTC]

After I lay a path I've programmed it to stroke and delete the path in one action. I also have them tied into my tablet so I made one that strokes with pressure simulated and one without it. I also downloaded a cool one that makes planets. I programmed one that sets up my scanned work for inking... a bunch of stuff like that. I need to do a few more.

Oh i see that must be very helpful with inking that was the worst part.

I just tried it out, and wow, that is simple! It took literally 5 seconds to do. And here's something you can add to it:

After making your initial speedlines, click Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates and set it to Rectangular to Polar, and you can make a speedline effect that zooms out. Make it wide enough and move it to different parts of the frame and you can have all kinds of speed line effects. Almost as quick too!

hulkdaddyg In reply to Dualmask [2010-03-22 13:14:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I tried it, but I think I missed something. I can't get what you did behind your DM pic with it. But that was hella easy wasn't it?

Dualmask In reply to hulkdaddyg [2010-03-22 13:42:58 +0000 UTC]

After I did polar coordinates, I ran auto-levels (Shift+Ctrl+L) to get a greater variance of white and black, and erased the center of the speedlines with a soft-edged Eraser. Then I put the speedlines on top of the Dualmask cover on a layer set to Multiply which makes all the white transparent. Toyed a bit with opacity after that.

It was definitely simple. You inspired me to throw a little tutorial together, but I was too tired to finish it and post it last night. There's probably a million of them like that out there already anyway.

hulkdaddyg In reply to Dualmask [2010-03-22 14:20:28 +0000 UTC]

My polar coordinates just turn my lines into circles. No biggie though, for that particular pattern I have a template anyway. You should throw the tutorial together btw.

Dualmask In reply to hulkdaddyg [2010-03-22 14:22:49 +0000 UTC]

Try making your speed lines perfectly vertical first, then set the polar coordinates to "Rectangular to Polar". It should work.

I've already pieced together the pictures for the tutorial and wrote all the text, I just have to put it all together in a large image file.

hulkdaddyg In reply to Dualmask [2010-03-22 14:29:23 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see. My lines were horizontal and that gives you circles.

My lines are perfectly ...wait vertical? I'll try again...

Oh no she didn't! You just don't know when to quit do you?

Nice one though! I'm liking the poses, that back hand looks real effective...of course, on the real, a blow like that would only make Nia flinch!

Maybe I can find the time to come up with another retaliation later...

I think they are pretty evenly matched, besides Nia was in the air so it may look worse than it actually is. I definitely want to see where this goes!!
