Description Stopped in Nashua, Montana to shoot a westbound unit grain train. As I was waiting on it, I glanced over and thought the crossing guards against the blue sky with the dusting of snow on the ground made a neat scene.

Definitely a great shot. A wonderful composition of colors and textures, and a great feeling of temperature and general "environment". and I love those "pure Americana" type pictures, and this one keeps to your rail passion wonderfully.

Take care
Don

Those gate catchers (for lack of a better term) are common around here in Kansas too. I have some pictures of gates on the BNSF Topeka sub, halfway to Lawrence. Perhaps I'll post one.

Robert, you have a nice photo here. I like the contrast between the fresh white snow, bright blue sky and the hard colors of the earth. The crossing guards aren't bad either. LOL. I have never seen those guide arms at the top of a crossing gate. Are they for strong winds?

That's what I've always assumed they are for, since our 'normal' winter winds are typcially 20-30 mph.

Thanks for the comments, John! I appreciate it!
