Actually, this is better than most "How to draw people" tutorials I've seen. Sometimes I run into slanted figures or figures with torsos too short, or hands too long, heads too small, etc etc. The list of anatomy mistakes is endless.. ...

Thanks! I really suck at drawing people, so when my art teacher taught me about the human body proportions, I found it helpful to actually draw it out for my own reference.

Same here, in fact when I compared your technique to an object I recognized in the house I found it comparable to that of a folded fan, it's really helpful, thank you so much once again!!!! I found the problem to avoid slanting! Mwah ha hha hah ha ha ha ha.

"to that of a folded fan"...do you mean figuratively, or is there a technique involving folded fans that I'm not not aware of? If it's the latter, please share!

I mean figuratively speaking. This is what I mean to avoid further confusion: Take a moment to think about it. If you draw the shape out with your skeleton under drawing, then grab a chinese fan that's folded, and put it beside your drawing it will resemble the fan a little bit.
I find that relating certain shapes in your "under drawing" will help you identify what certain parts of the body should look like no matter what size of the body when you are working on learning anatomy.
A lot of people like to define woman as "a figure eight shape" but that's not true for all women. Same for men, people like to use the "triangle" thing or 'squares' thing as a definition for all shapes on either gender, but that's going to be a limitation to me if you do that, you'll start drawing only one specific body shape. I suppose if you are a beginner artist, just learning how to draw from the start, using the "figure eight" for women and the "triangle" or "rounded rectangle" for men can help you get started with figure drawing.
There's a lot of different shapes and sizes. Is your person the "apple" shape? What about a "pear" shape? Is the person a "rectangle"? So on and so forth, while still keeping in mind the proportions and what the human body is supposed to look like.
I am not an expert in drawing, I'm very much a beginner, please don't take what I say the wrong way.
I hope this answers your question, and I hope that it doesn't come off as rude, I don't use "text speak/emoticons" often so people always mistake what I say for being rude. If nothing else I'd rather just use the plz accounts. . . . or just this little guy here-- >

I understand what you mean now; you're absolutely right about the different body shapes. The proportions on my drawing are very general, or what my art teacher calls "average." Since I'm indeed a beginner of beginners, she wants me to get down the general shapes/proportions before attempting to draw the less common body shapes/proportions.
And no, you don't sound rude at all.

Ah I see, that's a very good way to start, that's what I'm doing right now, I'm memorizing the proportions with a simple kind of style first before I even think about going the advanced/realism route. I think once you understand the basics everything else will come at ease for you when you want to try the more advanced things of art. <3
I was worried about that but I see I had nothing to worry about, good luck to you on your art journey, I'm gonna give you a watch, because I have enjoyed our conversation and want to see you grow with art.

Join the club! Haha. At least you're good at drawing cartoon-like people (I peeked through your gallery). I can't even do that.
