The system Earth, is the homeworld of the Human race, with approximately 11.5 billion inhabitants spread across the world's 7 designated continents. The planet's biosphere, climate and environments has been largely damaged by the mass movement of Human industrialization, during which the early 20th century and late 21st century generated copious amounts of carbon dioxide, causing the planet to gradually warm and melt vast quantities of the Earth's polar ice caps. Over the course of 100 years, water levels had risen by over 2 meters, and technological advancements brought upon by the discovery of Prothean ruins on Mars caused a major uplift among the world's society, enabling humanity to expand beyond Sol, and discover the Mass Relay network which connected Earth to the wider galaxy. The planet, still divided among various nation-states, maintains relatively cooled relations, with the overarching authority of the Systems Alliance allowing for a sense of worldwide unity in a wider galactic community.
