Description **This was drawn back in November- the designs here are not what they will be in the final version of the comic!!**

I drew this for the company blankpages, and what they do is take a book and publish a blank manuscript, where every other page is blank, for an artist to illustrate. This is one of the two illustrations I did for the company although I'm worried that they're not going to ever get the book published, because so few artists have taken part ; - ;

The other illustration I did for the company is here: hwilki65.deviantart.com/#/art/…

Not at all, I can definitely see the effort that was put into it. And I'm so glad! <3

Thanks
There are a few things I would like to change, but it's fairly decent imo (you know how when you return to art months later there is always at least one thing you don't like about it )

I like their goggles (The ones that are supposed toΒ protect their eyes from the "brightness and glory" of the city), they look steampunk!

Thanks!! The goggles will be the same in the comic, more or less. I was definitely going for a steampunk vibe! The city of emeralds is actually based off of Victorian and Edwardian cities, but 'steam powered.'

I can definitely see the steampunk-ish vibe in the Emerald City, especially with the Wizard and all his contraptions to disguise himself.

Oh good!! That's what I was thinking, actually. In order to seem like a city made of emeralds, it would have to either be entirely encrusted in jewels or full of so many things all over that you almost didn't notice the emeralds themselves, just faint glints here and there. I think my City of Emeralds might end up being more like what you would imagine Paris to be like, more or less, with that type of city layout and it probably won't be covered in emeralds- that's what the glasses/ goggles are for.

Oh! A Paris-like Emerald City.... I love it! It'll be beautiful!

I always imagined the Emerald City was set with thousands of precious and semi-precious stones on its buildings, but the goggles made them appear to be emeralds, along with everything else.

Yep! ^^ I also thought that the city would have lots of waterfalls, waterways, and moats (to ward off the wicked witches).

Same!! I feel like there might be lots of mirror and glass as well, to make the city seem larger and lovelier than it actually is- though it's still a beautiful place. The mirrors would also multiply the amount of 'emeralds' one sees.
