Why didn't they simply delete the psychopathic virus with antimalware and some extreme hacking protocol early on?! How many times do they have to go through a near death experience to realize that is the only sure solution? Aelita wouldn't be at risk since the threat would be terminated, and neither would anyone else outside the game: if Xana was gone, the only bad thing that could happen would be a glitch in the operating system causing a reboot to "resurrect" the menace.
Then, once Xana is gone, they could create new things in Lyoko and have some gaming fun without a viral monster trying to kill everyone in the process

Aelita was attached to Xana in the beginning, so if they ran some kind of AV then it would harm Aelita. Do you remember the episode Marabounta? It targeted Aelita by accident, and this was an attempted AV. When they freed Aelita, Xana escaped onto the network, so then an AV wouldn't help.
