That was GCSE, now in AS and A level maths I'm used to using y-y1=m(x-x1).
Looks hard, but its pretty easy.
I myself have actually forgotten how to use y=mx+c / y=mx+b

It's not bad. Wait until you get to the quadratic formula. -b/2a +/- (the square root of) b(squared) -4ac/2a.
