Description Chapter 30

I looked up and down the canyon.  Dreyfus was right.  There was no bridge.  That meant we’d have to jump across.  That wouldn’t be a problem for me, for I could fly fast enough to escape those flexigator thingies.  Going that fast while carrying Dreyfus, on the other hand, would not be so easy.  And I wasn’t even sure I could carry both Dreyfus and Isee.

“Is there any chance of flying higher than they can reach?” I asked.

Dreyfus translated my question to Isee.  He mooed back.  “Nope.” Dreyfus said.  “They can reach very high up.”

I thought for another moment.  I got an idea.  Though I didn’t think it would really work, I figured I’d ask anyway.  “What are the odds of bribing them into letting us cross?”

Dreyfus gave me a look and I discarded the idea and thought some more.

Right then I saw a huge herd of what looked something like goats with horns.  They were all turquoise colored with plants growing in them.  They ran up to the canyon and jumped across.  A couple of them were grabbed in midair by the flexigator things.  And a few didn’t quite make it to the other side, falling down and getting eaten by sharks.

“I’ve got an idea.” Neshae said.  “Everyone get on one of those things!”

Before anyone could argue, I raced to the herd of horned goats and mounted one.  It bucked a little, but then continued running with the herd as if not wanting to get left behind.  Seems even it knew that the bigger the number of things crossing meant the smaller the chance of getting caught.

I didn’t look behind me, but I assumed from the commotion sounding behind me that Isee and Dreyfus too had gotten on a horned goat.  Then mine jumped off the edge of the canyon, just about taking flight.

I looked down below me.  The river way below me.  I could see the shark fins circling furiously, attacking the prey that dropped into the water.  Flexigators stretched their long necks and caught a few of the horned goats around me.

And one came right at mine.

“Woah!” I cried out as its jaws went around the goat I was riding, nearly catching my feet with it.  I jumped off just in time to escape being dragged down into the water with it.  Instead of riding another one of the goat things, I decided to fly the rest of the way across.

When THe rest of the herd landed on the other side, I was relieved to see that Isee and Dreyfus had made it across okay.  I landed next to them, ready to continue our journey.
