On continuities and such, how about the FF series? Most of those are of different/parallel stories. Only one did a sequel, and that was FFX with the sequel FFX-2.

Though that's kind of off topic, you do have a point.
Certain DC characters may have an argument to make about this, but, Sonic and Optimus have done them on a much faster rate
