Description
this is a design i did for the animated movie based on EA Game's Dead Space. it's a creature call the Graverobber, and it was the only monster created exclusively for the movie. unfortunately it ended up getting cut out at the last moment.drawing and inks by me, colors by my pal, Kim Bitsui.

Well I hope to see it some how great design hate to see it go to waste. Any more animated comics or movies coming out? I really enjoyed the animated shorts about the colony!

i'm sure EA will do some form of these things seeing how it's great promotion for their games, but what exactly we'll have to wait and see after DS2 comes out.
the only way EA would use this design in the future is if they knew ho much fans love it. that's why i say, let them know....it's the only way it'll ever happen.

when i bought the game this creature was on a promotional flier for the prequel movie. but i never saw it in the game and move. what was its purpose?

this character was only designed for the prequel movie.....and was cut out of it due to budgetary concerns.

i notice that the top two ...corpses are that of the minner and the security officer that doesn't like confrontation. is that a coincidence or is there a reason behind that as well?

there is a reason behind it. the creature swallows people and incorporates them into it's body.

and the people it eats are dead or necromorphs, because they look pretty alive ... to a point.

i seen this on the deleted scenes tho was pretty interesting except it was all on paper scetch and pencil but i watched it still kept on wishing it was in the movie and not pencil sketch

you should let EA know that....i think there's a some people in charge there that didn't like anything about this movie.......so , with DS2, they went in a different direction.

it was supposed to be in "downfall", but we had to cut that sequence due to time and budget constraints....

Dead space 2 in being done as we speak.....sadly i'm not involved in it at all. while it's entirely possible that they could use the Graverobber.....it's highly unlikely.

production wise, the movie and the game are two different things....they're made by two different companies, by two different groups of people.
i work in animation, and have no current plans to work in games....so working on the next game never occurred to me.the Graverobber, was created to be something that was solely meant for the movie. although EA execs had final approval on the GR design, i doubt that have any idea to use the GR for the next movie or game......i doubt they know it has any popularity among you DS fans.
as far as to why i'm not in the next movie...from what i understand, they're doing something with it that's a different creative direction from the last movie. since i was a major part of the previous direction, i'm sure that i wasn't considered for this one.
it's too bad....i would have loved to work on something like DS again.

Oh you also do DS games, have you done anything recently? I would love a ds version or something close that has to do with dead space, even though i have no idea how Dead space could be playable in any aspects on the ds :3 Playing the game is too scary for me on a big tv, but i think i could handle it on my ds a lot better (:
Oh and you say their making another movie? Well now i'm even more excited about this year! Yea all the monsters are really scary, and the graverobber especially, they should have checked dA because a lot of people do like it :l
I wish they would hold a contest to see what people would design as monsters, and then maybe put it on the game or movie or something... I love designing monsters and crazy stuff like that :3

about the grave robber, i was hoping that someone from DA would write at let EA know how insanely popular the Graverobber has become on DA and the net.

I would definitely recommend Graverobber to EA D: But I'm not sure how... Yea i think it would be a major win in the movie or game because it's really creepy :l

It's a shame that the whole Graverobber part was cut out from the movie itself.
As much as I love Dead Space and enjoyed watching the movie, it was lacking that climactic part that the Graverobber beast would have filled in. When I watched the 'extras' and saw the work in progress for the Graverobber scene, to this day, I still say it would have been the the best thing in that movie.
But I'm very impressed by the overall look of the creature itself. I love the terrified and disfigured faces and limbs. Although, I wished EA could have let you keep at least a bit of your original drawing with the bunch of hands as the feet. That just sent a creepy shiver up my spine when seeing that.
Amazing work. I'm sure you must have been very pleased working with them, regardless of the Graverobber getting in the movie or not

thanks for the comment, and i'm glad you saw the original G.R....this version gets so much attention i often wonder if people even bother checking out the other one.
yeah, it would've been nice if they let me keep some of the original design, but their reasoning was spot on, so i had no problem saying good bye to the original Graverobber and starting over. i was just happy that i had it in me to come up with something that creepy. being a designer in tv animation, i don't really get to practice drawing such horrifying stuff.
it's the above reason, among a few others, that will keep my experience on Deadspace one of my career highlights.
other than that, EA was great to work with.....maybe i'll have a chance to work with them in the future.
i'm really glad that you, and everyone else here, has enjoyed that movie so much.....it means a lot.
