Description
this is a design i did for the animated movie based on EA Game's Dead Space. it's a creature call the Graverobber, and it was the only monster created exclusively for the movie. unfortunately it ended up getting cut out at the last moment.drawing and inks by me, colors by my pal, Kim Bitsui.

I wish the bit with the Gravedigger had made it into the movie - they could have cut several superfluous scenes (like the several seconds wasted on watching Vincent getting dressed for no real reason) to put this awesome creature in. If I recall correctly, the Gravedigger was supposed to be what the necromorphs in the mess hall were building, the reason they were piling all the bodies together, and Samuel Irons was going to be part of it. I love how the ones on it's back look like the humans they once were are still in there, screaming in horror and pain at their fate, but unable to do anything about it - Samuel seems to have mostly accepted it, though he's probably regretting his choice of religion at that moment.

remember that the Thing is inmune to slicing and punture wounds due that it can regenerate and divide itself, but its vulnerable to wide area damage, like flames or electricity.
also i really like your work, and i have to ask.

sorry, the character was created for a specific scene in the movie....so, when i created it, i was told they needed to be absorbed into the creature's body so that Alyssa would have to eventually recognize them. that's it really. so i went about designing something really creepy that would do that.
bottom line is that the creature was just created for a specific story point. so i put no thought to it beyond that purpose.

well, it's not just a neat idea....it was actually a story point in the movie before we decided to cut this creature out of the film.

you're design of this is just pure gold!, i seen the movie and the deleted scene of this creature,and i got to say it's a real shame they cut out such a amazing enemy, but if this was ever to end up in dead space games, it would make just a wicked fight to make the players feel on the edge,and surely have them scared. amazing job on this!
