Interesting.
Like an artificial version of the "Dark Water" of "Pirates of Dark Water"?

I hadn't though of that, but yeah, only, like, this red water isn't relaly evil, it's just a science experiemnt gone wrong. It is a bacteria designed for kelp farms, but when it leaked it had similar effects on the rest of the ocean, causing creature to evolve in a sense, making them more agreesive, strange, and powerful. It also tends to kill most advanced organisms it comes in contact with. It doesn't, like reach up and grab ships or anyhting like dark water did in the cartoon. Although now I'm a little sad at the comparison, I hadn't thought of that. X_x

No, I like your idea of "organic fertilizer running amok," it's nowhere near as depressing as dark water.

Besides, you could always go back and adjust what it does to humans...
