Oh man, that's still something I'm struggling with a lot!
Basically what I *try* to do is draw out a shape.. a circle, a triangle or a square. So, when I go to add the features I try to mimic the shape, if I did a triangle, I make the nose more angled, etc. But then of course it's just trial and error!
Sometimes I'll fill up a page of just heads. Like, I'll draw one that I would say is my "normal" way of drawing it, and then next to it I'll draw it again, but I'll emphasize a feature like the eyes, then I'll draw another, but emphasize a different feature.. so that when I've filled the page, hopefully all the heads look at least a little different from each other.
Sorry, I'm kind of bad at explaining, but hopefully this makes sense? I can always clear it up if you need me too (:
