Description Taken today at the pool at the end of our lane, a place you may recognise from my other shots.
Had woken up and saw that it wasn't raining so decided to get my stuff together and go for a walk to further test my new lens. I can tell you interesting compositions are everywhere when using it.

4 shots, ranging exposures from -3 stops to +1 stop, merged in photoshop. Levels, b&w tone also added in PS.

Hope you like it, im still undecided, comments and critiques are more than welcome.

edit: Tighter crop of left side and bottom. More burning and dodging added.

looks nice, makes one tend to wonder how the fance would come to be underwater; it doesn't look like it was originally intended to be, but that makes it all the more interesting. Also, great job capturing the broad range of brightness values.

Nice new lens you have there
Quite a nice shot, nice sky and the reflections on the fencing gives a nice depth. I think the bottom detracts from the photo, would have been nice with a different focus point in there.

Must have been freezing.

Thanks piergo, and the lens is a beast! Im off to water break its neck this afternoon.
I agree with the bottom of the shot, i think a slight cropping is in order but not enough to unbalance the composition of the fence.

Wasn't that cold actually, just a bit windy.

A beautiful HDR, especially like the colors tones (how do you get them to look that way?) I think the only thing id maybe change about this is a bit of a crop to go for a vertical panorama. But overall, freaking amazing!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

iamgoatman In reply to angelace [2006-12-12 11:23:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. For the colour tones i either use a hue colourisation or a gradient map in photoshop. I agree a crop is needed, a little off the left side and a tad off the bottom. Cheers

Hmm...how do you use gradient maps? Never used them before...

iamgoatman In reply to angelace [2006-12-12 23:30:51 +0000 UTC]

Gradient maps are pretty simple and effective once you know how, you may find this tutorial helpful [link]

angelace In reply to iamgoatman [2006-12-13 15:05:23 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much for that link, it helps Btw, what lens did you use for most of your landscape photos, i presume a wideangle?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

iamgoatman In reply to angelace [2006-12-13 20:02:01 +0000 UTC]

Not a problem. For most of my shots i used a 28-90mm lens which is far from wide but it was all i had, was quite difficult at times to use, but now i use my sigma 10-20mm lens which is perfect for landscapes

angelace In reply to iamgoatman [2006-12-13 21:26:28 +0000 UTC]

I'm also looking for a wideangle lens (primarily for landscape + architecture) with a reasonable price tag right now got my eye on the Tamron17-35mm, any suggestions on what to look for, or watch out for?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

iamgoatman In reply to angelace [2006-12-13 21:34:10 +0000 UTC]

That Tamron looks pretty good for what your looking to do, its quite wide but with a reasonable amount of zoom, plus a with a good maximum aperture of 2.8 it will prove useful in lowlight conditions. Just read reviews on it to see how others have found it, I've seen lenses that look good on paper but have turned out to be poor, you get what you pay for really

angelace In reply to iamgoatman [2006-12-13 23:41:44 +0000 UTC]

Heh, true true. From what i read from most reviews and peoples opinions, this is a tad bit lesser quality substitution for the 17-40mm L from Canon. But still an amazing steal for the price. Heh, decisions decisions

iamgoatman In reply to angelace [2006-12-13 23:48:03 +0000 UTC]

My friend owns the 17-40mm L canon and its really nice but i dont think its worth around 500 quid when you can get a cheaper model which does roughly the same thing. I find my sigma to be just as good and it was half the price.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

angelace In reply to iamgoatman [2006-12-14 07:24:42 +0000 UTC]

Thats exactly what i was thinking! Why spend more when you can buy roughly the same quality lens for half the price! Thank god for market compettition and 3rd party manufacturers
