Description
noel performing with PURE (People Undergoing Real Experiences)at the fenix underground, seattle, wa. 9/17
ok, i'm just going to be completely honest here.
i find beauty in this.
no, i'm not a sadist.
no, i'm not a masochist.
no, i'm not a sadomasochist.
no, i'm not at all into pain or
seeing others in pain or hurt in any way.
this is not about pain at all.
this is noel's euphoria.
that's the word he used when
i later asked him how he felt up
there suspended by hooks above the crowd.
he said ' e u p h o r i c '.
and he was. i could see it.
i could feel it.
i could taste it.
there was no doubt.
we all have different methods we use to get to that place.
outside of our selves. where we experience
a kind of freedom..
an elation..
power..
this form is no less legitimate than any other.
no one is doing this who does not wish to.
i see beauty because i feel his euphoria.

hmm.. was i trying to justify it..?
..maybe.
i thought i was trying to open minds to the
possibilty of some kind of beauty happening here.
maybe a bit of both.
yes the expression. ufff.
the expression with that light.
makes me ache..
thanks hun. great insightful comment as always.

i think you did open minds big time. but i think that there was a lot in there about how this was a free choice and don't judge and well i think your picture speaks for itself.
i don't know i mean maybe some of it was good, like the part where you say we all have different ways of being free of ourselves.
i just think some of it was defensive and took away from the photo.
which is amazing but i've already said that.
your dark euphoria whew great title.
can i send you my photos to title? my titles usually stink!

titles are soooo hard for me usually. it takes a lot of thought for me
so nooooooo! i won't do yours! hahaa..
yea, maybe.. maybe i was defending things.. to myself even. perhaps..

you have such good titles. am i a brat if i say i'm glad they are hard for you to come up with.
like anything else i guess if i can give my piece the proper title, it means i really understand the photo.

I've seen this done...and while I'm always sure I'm going to pass out watching it...I find myself staring into the eyes of the person and they carry me away with them in the most extraordinary way. Your image brings the moment and the energy back to me.

There is something seductive about this photo. Like the Christian story of Eve and the serpent. Its a curious thing. When I look at it, I feel like I'm looking at someone wrapping Christmas gifts through a key hole. Like I shouldn't be looking at it, because I'm seeing something that is not meant to be shared until the right moment. And there is the forbidden quality to it. How suspension is seen as something along the lines of "weird". I guess its just my views on accepting everything, conflicting with the world view to see everything not "normal" as deviant or weird.
I will go along with Noel and say that there is a euphoria in releasing self in methods that involve pain. Maybe its the control it takes to not breakdown, maybe its the sense of release one gets when experiencing it. Whichever it is, it is euphoric, addictive, and has an effect that is irreversible.

you wrote "Maybe its the control it takes to not breakdown"
and straight away my mind flew to the frou frou song,
'let go let go, co's there's beauty in the breakdown..'
and that says everything there is to say.

Interesting photo, wonderful angle. I just wish there was no description, it takes out the angle of the picture to me. I dont want to be reassured he is feeling o.k. and so. It is the tension that makes the picture interesting. The photo is so great, it definitely can stand on its own to me Katia! Keep up your wonderful work.

well, i agree the photo can def. stand on it's own. that is not the point of my words - to enhance the photo.
the thing i think i am trying to do with my words is to open up minds to the possibility of
seeing some kind of beauty in this. there IS tension obviously. and he's ok.
they both can and do exist together.
thanks for yr words woman.

OK, guess what? I put my hand up to the screen to scroll up. I wanted to not see the skin, the hooks, I was interesed to see his face.
I made sure what I did not want to see was covered ( I really can't deal with this!!) then had a good look at his face.
He looks sad.

I can't glance at this image for more than a moment. I just find it too hard to look at.
The lighting, and the moment itself is fantasticly captured, it is euphoria, and I can see that.
But I don't get it.

i love that idea of taking someone's breath away.. i always envisage an almost imperceptible gasp.
i love when people gasp. when i gasp. the act of gasping.

Oooh...
This one is hard. I concur with your words... going "out there" is an important part of the human condition. Usually it's something reserved to artists or religious persons. Those who go "out there" risk something...
The photo is great! The problem with it... it's just that it's scary. Maybe if I was there I could view it with different eyes. It's too strong for me. I can't stand to it too long. I feel pain. Maybe I will it, maybe if a let some time pass I will be in a better mood for such a strong emotion.
I don't know if I put it clearly enough: your art and technique is here, in the shot! Because it speaks to me so clearly!
Cheers to you and a
! Thank you for sharing!

again and again to try and get
the full force of it.
thanks so much.

I have goosebumps on my back.
You choosed the best angle. The mood is soooooooo deep and intimate.
It's the kind of shot i love cause the photograph is not only a photograph
but also a witness of a rare moment. The way you isolated the subject show me
that you and him are sharing something. Even if it's realy underground i can
feel the peace and the calm on this shot.
Very well captured Kat

GORGEOUS AMAZING OUTSTANDING WONDERFUL IMPRESSIVE ... I'm
how do you do find these amazing moments is what makes me even more jealous in a good way, of course...
Must love the dark tones and light...love his expression and how the chains embrace his body to protect from the harm the hooks could do...
like..hooks are bad but chains are good...
I feel this tension between the two materials...
beautiful angle too
