Description Nine Hawker Hunter F.6 aircraft of The Black Arrows in Diamond Nine formation in 1959.

The Black Arrows of 111 Squadron were formed in 1956 by Sqn Ldr Roger Topp, but not named as such until some time later. Widely heralded as the best team in the world, The Black Arrows were the RAF's official display team between 1956 and 1960, while remaining an operational front line squadron. They performed a record breaking (and still never equalled) loop of 22 aircraft at the Farnborough Airshow in 1958. This image, created in Cinema 4D and painted in Corel Painter, depicts the team in Diamond Nine formation, heading for home (RAF Wattisham, Suffolk) after a display in spring 1959. The livery and markings are those of the team in 1959, led by Sqn Ldr Peter Latham. Later in 1959 Latham was to increase the team to 14 and then 16 aircraft requiring him to lead the displays from the only aircraft available to him, a two seater Hunter T.7.
