Hello everyone....
So there's an issue which seems to be particularly pressing lately so I felt the need to re-state this to everyone.
You are not permitted to submit any form of art that IS NOT YOURS.
That includes edits, 'renders', traces, or re-posted art.
If you didn't draw something, you should not be submitting it - hell, you shouldn't even be posting it on dA.
Think about it this way; imagine an artist on pixiv.com drew a picture of Garry to show their appreciation for the Ib game. Somebody else saw that image and liked it, saved it to their computer, and edited it; they put an effect or texture on it, or they traced over it to create their own picture. Now, that's fine (provided that you don't claim the art as your own). They did it for fun and they did it privately, so it's all okay.
Posting it on the internet is a different matter, because by doing that you're exposing an artist's work to a new audience without their consent. They don't know that you've done that. What if the artist who drew the original picture had a dA account, and was planning on posting their picture here too? They submit it to this group, and what do they see? Their own picture, in the Featured gallery, with 1000+ favorites, compliments, downloads; all going to someone else.
That's art theft; you're stealing some-one else's recognition and you should not do it. Even if you say in the description 'this doesn't belong to me' or 'belongs to (username)' you still just should not do it. Post things that you drew yourself and be proud of them. There's literally no reason for submitting someone else's work.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh about this!! But as a victim of art theft myself, it's not a fun experience and even if you're not doing it with bad intentions, it's still a bad thing to do.
Not to mention that we explicitly state this in our group's rules, and yet for some reason we still get tons of submissions every day that don't belong to the submitter. It gets very hard to keep track of whether or not a person's art belongs to them.
So please, if everyone could help me here and try to stop art theft...!! If you see a submission in a gallery that blatantly was not drawn by the OP, please do your best to get it removed from the group, whether it's reporting the deviation to the admins or flagging the deviation etc. Please, let's stop art theft in this group together!
(B-by the way, if you're someone who has done something I mentioned above before...I'm not mad!! Just please don't do it again.)

Being honest I may have done it in the past (generally just for the pose)... >Crying in the corner<
Although I did clean anything out that may have been, Erm!, "used"
all in all, its clean.

Whenever I see something like this happen, I report it. Because this is not Tumblr or Photobucket where you can upload whatever the heck you want, this is deviantart and you're supposed to submit your own stuff.
Art theft never happened to me before because I'm not well known or something like that, but my gf is and her art gets stolen every now and then. No credit, no asking, nothing and this pisses me off to no end!

I agree of course.
I'm proud to say that i've never stoled an artwork because i can understand the feeling ...just like you.
(To tell the truth, I'm not a victim of art theft luckily but i can understand anyway)
I like to make my own work and only my own because working on someone else image makes me feel so... i don't know... fake... maybe. (I've never done THAT so i can't really understand THAT feels :/).
Do you know what it pisses me off the most? When they don't listen... that's so childish.
The first thing i do before to join a group is read the rules but seems like Ain't nobody got time for that
...oh well.
Anyway... ...don't excuse your self, be harsh or get mad if you want because, like Tsukikou said, it's a rule of "Your group" and it should be a rule of the entire dA
Thanks for this journal and for this fantastic group about this beautiful game of course.
Keep it up

Yes, I saw a render that was stolen from a Pixiv art and I was quite upset about it, but I kept quiet. I'm glad to see it won't be accepted anymore. Thanks!

To be honest I've been trying to keep out stolen renders etc since I started the group, but when you get 100+ submissions a day and all you see is a thumbnail it starts getting difficult keeping track of what's stolen or not...umu I'm going to try and be harsher now, though.

I understand how hard it is!
I'm part of a big Vocaloid group, and it's indeed hard to detect all the fanarts that were stolen.Once in a while, some stolen art slips too.
But we can always try to help you!

Yeah, it's hard. I try going through the galleries every now and then to just check if I missed anything, haha.
Thank you so much! If you ever see art that looks wrong enter the group, and just check it out and tell me or report the artist, that's already a huge help ;v;

Thank you thank you thank you thank you for this! Mind if I favourite it for future reference? I'll just link it to people that don't quite grasp the concept of art theft, this is phrased so well! *_*

No problem, and yes, sure!! Thank you haha. I rant about art theft a lot so I guess I manage to explain it fairly well-

I'm glad to see a group actually enforce this rule. It doesn't seem like a big problem but these sort people are every where on deviantART. It's very rare to convince someone to just delete the deviations or to stop the art theft however. I know this from experience, since I and a few friends of mine help deviants deal with art thieves.

Yeah, I agree...it's just such a huge problem on dA that for some reason is never addressed. I'm surprised that more groups aren't strict about this rule.

Rakutou In reply to rat-mother [2013-08-22 20:24:57 +0000 UTC]
Well art theft groups of course address this, but there are many groups that are made for rendering, bases, and other such things. I wish the staff was more strict on this. They take forever checking the deviation reports.

yeah I saw an edit submitted here recently and I was quite disappointed to not see her credit the original artist, I wanted to see the original art. I ended up not saying anything...but I should have.

Yeah, I saw that too! I talked to the submitter about it and removed it from the group. Apparently they didn't realise? Half the people who submit these things say that, and yet I don't understand...seeing as it's so explicitly stated in the rules haha.
It's no problem!! I generally try to hunt down everyone who submits stuff that's not theirs. Although it definitely makes more of a difference if more than one person raises the issue and calls out the reposter.

I remember reporting one work. It miffed me so much!! It was also an Ib submission..that one guy/girl who submitted an "Ib manga cover!" and then when I downloaded the zip it was a bunch of artworks from other people EDITED TOGETHER.
It hurt me personally, I guess since I make a webcomic and making pages really takes it out on you, and individual art too... To shortcut both is just so...

I saw your critique there, it had lots of great points. It's just sad how people in DA always take criticism as bashing, and not as something good...

eh...oh right I ended up critiquing it lol.
I critique almost everything I feel like it's a bad habit since, just like there, some people take it personally. But more often than not, it's welcome, so I try not to change. After all, if it's really a problem I'll just tell them it's okay to delete and apologize lol.
I had a friend tell me to stop saying bad things about his work once, and I apologized a lot for it. :< He said it was okay and he just got a little touchy for a while, and that honestly he appreciated it, but that I should hold back more since he's still a bit sensitive about his work.
I give him props for the mature response.

Errors are very common. Even professionals commit errors and are always learning. If someone doesn't point to them, there is a risk they might never figure out themselves. Some people can, some people can't.
I actually don't understand how some people never want to improve. I agree that sometimes it "hurts" to improve, but in the end, it's worthy.
I also don't think it's your fault, since you were very polite in your critiques. Not that other people are wrong too, they might be feeling sensitive in certain times, that's why it's a complicate matter too. XD

indeed, it is a sensitive matter. I do my best to stay tactful, even in real life things get a bit personal. I'm an art student and when critique day comes around, people walk around on eggshells when they put their two cents in.
Thankfully my class is pretty cool with each other, I hear in other classes walk-outs are pretty common. C'est la vie... :<

I'm actually glad that you keep doing critiques, because I gave up doing them, at least in DeviantART. I just do when somebody asks me, but I still feel like I'm walking on eggshells, like you said
And that's cool, about your class! It is very nice! ^^

Actually, the irony is I only critique when there's something I really like in the art. Like the "I see potential here"
and then I get all riled up and wanna say how I think it can be better. Otherwise I don't comment/make generic comment. Or if I dont see any way it can be improved, I praise lol.

Kurama-chan In reply to arcanehalo [2013-08-24 19:05:52 +0000 UTC]
I also though the person you made the critique had a lot of potential at editing, the only bad part is that she probably didn't have permission to use that image...

arcanehalo In reply to Kurama-chan [2013-08-25 03:55:54 +0000 UTC]
maybe DA should have some kind of option there... like a required field that checks. "Did you use the artwork of another person in creating this image? (Y) (N)" and then if you click yes, a box pops up "Please make sure you have permission. Source: [field] [+add more]"
...maybe I should suggest this lol.

ugghh I know what you mean. I own an anime-oriented group myself and people try submitting edited art and traced art all the time. One time one of my own admins tried suggesting a render to my group even though it says all art is supposed 100% yours
Some people on deviantart think that if you edited it/found it on zerochan or something it means its yours and its so annoying gdi
Don't apologize for this rule, Its your group. And if people are too lazy to look at the rules you have every right to get mad

rat-mother In reply to PixPir [2013-08-22 20:03:13 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I know right!! It's very frustrating...;; Luckily I only have myself and one other trusted admin, so with this group generally we manage to keep out stolen art fairly well. General indicators are when people a) title the submission strangely or in a way that doesn't imply they drew it (i.e. 'Garry x Ib' 'Cute Ib 5') b) have a strange or unprofessional looking username, or c) the thumbnail of the artwork looks strange or unnatural; e.g. the coloring skills fall short of that of the lineart, or the lines look crudely drawn, or the overall composition looks wrong and unplanned.
Thank you! I'm trying not to offend anyone when I write this rule as a lot of the time people get angry when I'm too harsh...honestly though, I feel very strongly about the subject. I'm definitely going to be harsh to anyone who ignores it. Thanks for the support www

Oh, yes, I agree! This is a bit sad of them, because I actually already saw my art being uploaded on Zerochan without permission. People who see my art there might think they can do anything they want with it? No.

Siiggghh zerochan is the worst
everyone thinks the art uploaded there is copyright free or something and its ugh
Oh, and uh, if you contact the admins of zerochan they'll take your art down if you see it there, so thats good too I guess? yeah
