Another Day One LGBT WOF Week Β post! You can't tell me you only expected me to draw one piece for the lesbian day, right?Anyways, here's Thorn and Onyx! Onyx wants to be Queen, Thorn shouldn't date someone old enough to be her dad, they have matching jewelry, it works out. Onyx looks a bit like she listens to too much Evanescence but that's just how she is and we have to accept her as our goth lesbian dragon representation. That's the law.

We actually have an answer, but it's a bit of a language lesson!
There is, at least on human terms (and from what we've seen of married Queens, the same applies to Wings of Fire) only one leading person at any given time. The full titles are King Regent and Queen Regent! Because of that being a bit of a mouthful, it's usually shortened to just King or Queen.
Now, if there is a King Regent, his wife is called the Queen Consort. Again, that's generally shortened to just Queen! If there is a Queen Regent, though, her husband is called the Prince Consort. This is why the husband of Queen Elizabeth is not known as a King! (This doesn't seem to apply in Wings of Fire, though; princes are always the children of the king and queen. It can be assumed that the named King is then the King Consort to the Queen Regent, in all examples save Darkstalker, who would have been the King Regent.)
If the King Regent took a husband, they would use the same system of rank; the King who is on the throne would be the King Regent, and his husband would be the Prince Consort or, to adjust for the terms used in Wings of Fire, the King Consort! If the Queen Regent took a wife, they would likely use the Queen Consort title as well, though hypothetically Princess Consort would also work!
TL;DR The heir of the throne would be the Queen Regent and have more power, while their wife would hold the title of Queen Consort and hold the same amount of power as a King Consort would in their place!

I think that technically, since in Darkness of Dragons it strongly hinted at Tholder (Thorn x Smolder), if Thorn marries Smolder, wouldn't Onyxsort of be her daughter? Just noticing that is, I still like this ship
