Description Into each second's whirlpool twist so many possibilities,
Unlived.
And each second has its subdivisions,
Tiny fractal gearwheels marking their own turn.
And each in turn has its own chronometer,
The wheels turning faster,
And so on...
To when existence winks itself out.

2006's final offering, first of a pair straddling the New Year. May you see out the year in style

Apophysis + GIMP.

Hey !

That work is just fantastic... AMAZING!

One thing... IMO the title is too big. The font is allright, but it's just too eye-catching (...IMO)

But fractal is GREAT ... damn good job!

Thank you indeed! I'm still cool with the size of the title, although I tend not to include them these days

The range of possibilities within fractal art changes quickly, either through changes to the software or new techniques discovered by artists. I try to keep pace, but...

Yes! You've hit the nail on the head and driven it home I had sort of registered the fact, yet never concretised that into such a description

Indeed! Something about this kind of Julia/N, the hint of gearwheels, always suggests time

I could live with an image on my wall suggesting time very well but I can't stand wall clocks that let you hear how time goes by.

This infinite workings of a time-piece looks great in monochrome. A good sense of depth too as the furthest away gears fade into the distance.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IDeviant In reply to bluesman219 [2007-01-01 11:24:23 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's a standard 'Grand JuliaN' (as ~ClaireJones 'Julia Uncovered' tutorial) with some tweaks to the first transform (you may have spotted 'blob' in there with blob_waves set to 5) then a randomised greyscale gradient tweaked to remove points of excessive brightness. I've yet to fully explore the possibilities of applying the FX to such fractals, let alone the new PX

bluesman219 In reply to IDeviant [2007-01-02 04:22:26 +0000 UTC]

I'll dig out that tut again Ian. Thanks for the pointers. I have no clue how to use the PX or what it's function is yet.

IDeviant In reply to bluesman219 [2007-01-02 12:50:00 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what it actually is (my guess from its name is that each transform may have a further transform operate on it, and it only) but I have written an interesting little script that exchanges coefficients between each transform and its corresponding post-transform. Works best on completed parameters and often seems to have the effect of turning the image inside out. If you're interested, I wouldn't mind a second opinion

I think your right for the most part Ian. I'm just getting a start on it and I have noticed how it gives you more flexibility with individual triangles.

Love that you've left this gray scale or almost gray scale. By doing so all of the nice contrasts are really accentuated like in a black and white photo. Love the ambiance and composition as well. Well done!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IDeviant In reply to 2BORN02B [2007-01-01 11:10:01 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's certainly greyscale - I used the Randomise gradient function with saturation at zero, then played with rotation to remove points of excessive brightness. It's always worth taking a little time, and deeply gratifying when a fellow artist appreciates these things
