What's this?! Comic Book Science?! I thought you had stopped doing these after the first one just over a year ago- (Seriously, I can't believe it's been a whole year between entries with this mini-series...)But yes, Professor Greystone returns once more to deliver that sweet sweet fictional science. So what brought this about? A mere conversation with about how many dimensions there are in comic books. So I figured I'd answer the question of how the very Multiverse in at least my comics works.
A quick bit of info on some of these worlds:
FIRST WORLD - The first major iteration of any sort of reality. This world met it's end over and over in every dimensional branch, at the hands of a mad time god.
PARADOX WORLD - The first example of Paradox Intervention, when a rogue Time Traveller managed to alter the timeline by killing the mad time god. As such, the Paradox World is highly unstable and in constant flux, with all of it's branching worlds being mostly destroyed and damaged in some way.
ULTIMA-VERSE - The first timeline in which Universal Peace was achieved, thanks to the Ultimas succeeding in their goals of conquering all life.
THUNDER LEGION, SKYOREX EMPIRE, PURITY OF HUMANITY, GASLIGHT GOTHICA, AND FUTURE UTOPIA - All timelines from a previous DU Challenge a few years back.
PIXEL-APOCALYPSE - The near future timeline, in which the hero Pixel turns evil and destroys all life.
DEVIANT UNIVERSE - ...The Deviant Universe...
THE BRIGHTVERSE, OTHERWORLD, and THE DARK DIMENSION - All evil mirror versions of the Deviant Universe.
THE FURRY DIMENSION - Diago could easily call this place home...
REAPER-VERSE - The Home Dimension of 's character Knight Slayer.
SPEEDSTER WORLD - The Home Dimension of 's character Virtus.
POWERLESS - A world almost identical to ours, in which no one has any super powers.
WRAITH WORLD - The World the Mother Chron-Wraith sent her children to after they were driven from the Deviant Universe.
DR SHOCK-VERSE - A World in which Dr Shock successfully took over the world, and eventually the entire Universe after giving himself the powers of Great Man.
VOID WALKER HOME WORLD - The Home Universe of a powerful ascended race called the Void Walkers, who spend their time murdering Eldritch, and observing different realities.
FUDGE - A World in which the food-based mad scientist Renegade turns the Universe into Fudge.
SALMON-VERSE - A world FULL of Salmon. No one knows how or why this world exists, but it does. And it kind of smells.
TIMELINE 3001 - The Homeworld of Titan, the White Rabbit and the Storyteller.
Now, I can't guarantee that any other artist in the DU will use this, or even if it will remain canon, but Comic Book Science segments explain how the world works in my comics at the very least, and I'll stick with these guidelines to the multiverse for as long as I can.

I wonder how this relates to the School Girl, who is a unique entity within the multiverse.

In all likelihood, School Girl would be an anomaly; a rare occurrence when a "mortal" being only exists in one specific iteration. The only other beings besides anomalies that have this trait are the Eldritch, who come in all shapes, sizes and power levels, though all are initially born of the void, or from a god or entity that is also from the void. Given School Girl's Succubus ancestry, she may actually fall into the latter, and classify as an Eldritch being...

Actually, my question was how many alternate dimensions there was under the DU moniker, but this certainly went far above that effort!
Not sure why Virtus would hail from an alternate universe adjacent of the main DU... Care to explain?

That is mostly based on this page:
While Virtus does seem to know a bunch of the heroes from the Deviant Universe, he seems to have only met them during inter-dimensional crossovers like DA Secret Wars and the AFL. As such, when he finally showed up in the DU on this page, I took that, and everything else I had read to mean that Virtus was actually from a slightly different timeline originally, thus explaining why he hasn't been directly in the DU before this moment.
I have no idea if this is correct, but I did try my best to make sense of this crazy Multiverse. I hope that's ok.

Ah yeah, I see how that might have confused things.
I was quite opposed to joining the DU at first, as I felt that I didn't have the time to contribute to it. I only really got back into the charm of collaborating with people over the course of Planet AFL and finally gave in. By then, I felt it was easier to just drop Virt in the middle of things rather than figure out what he was doing. I'm not a fan of backtracking.
Virtus - dA/DU Timeline III (AFL1000: He's back!)Next part! So much padding! And not a particularly well-done order, given ties, epilogues, etc!

The in-canon explanation for Virt's absence is that he fell into a sour mood after the first Otherworld event and spent some time away to train himself to the bone, which is why he missed out on pretty much all DU events. I'm employing a sort of "broad strokes" approach to Virt's overall history, which has bits of pieces of everything collaborative I've ever produced, on DA or otherwise.

Fair enough. I can understand that at times the DU can be constricting for stories, or can be too overwhelming for people to just jump into... I've tried to get other people to join, with no success. 👍: 0 ⏩: 0

You know, I think you should suggest for this to be submitted to the DU Extras, as I think that this is very well thought out.

Maybe? I'm not entirely sure if I should. 'Comic Book Science' is a way for me to explain how certain fictional concepts work in my own comics. Putting it directly into the Deviant Universe could create expectations that this is how all other artists are supposed to depict the Multiverse, and I don't know if I'd be ok with that. I want the other artists to be free to do their own thing when it comes to exploring magical sub-dimensions, or alternate realities, or whatnot. That's kind of the only reason I'm being hesitant to try and submit this at the moment.
I may go ahead and ask for 's thoughts on the matter, since the final decision is up to him anyways. If he says yes, then I would be open to making more of these (and redoing the first one about Star Shards), otherwise 'Comic Book Science' will just be a very sporadic thing that I do when I have certain concepts to explain in my own comics.
