I love this, especially the shade you throw at Hux in the info blurb. Are you planning on drawing the StarFortress IV as well? I'm presuming it's a different ship than the B-52 StarHammer you posted a few days ago.

The StarHammers are redesigns of the StarFortresses, and are featured in the rebooted version of War For The Outer Rim.

Holy crap that is just georgeous. I really love this design. It's so perfect to look at. I felt it needed some more added touches with more weapons so it can act as a kind of fleet-killer, but other then that it's damn brilliant

Just a thought, is there any chance I can use it if possible? I'm planning on doing a story based on Trevorrow's cancelled Episode 9 DOTF script that would mix both that and elements from TROS.

I needed a design of the Eclipse since it's going to be the ship the Resistance would manned as it's new flagship in place of the Raddus that was lost in TLJ

Haven't started on it yet, but I would like materials to use for it. So would it be alright if I use this?

As long as its non-profit, yes.

Thanks. Will it be alright that I make some additional adjustments to this? I mentioned it needed some added touches. Needs some fins on the side with more guns

I absolutely love your design, it's superior the the Mandator IV in every possible way. It feels much more in line with the Resurgent-Class, sleek and high-tech.

On a side note, if the original imperial design never left the blueprint stage, can it really be called a 'prototype'?

"Oh, it's beautiful"

-Orson Krennic

Seriously though, this is beautiful! The sleekness of the hull and the broad, low conning tower combine into a formidably stealthy and menacing shape. The history you've devised also feels like an ironic reversal of the IJN carrier Shinato, which began construction as the third Yamato-class battleship, only to be completed as an aircraft carrier as the demands of the Pacific war shifted. So here we have a carrier outfitted as a battlewagon, seen through a mirror darkly.

That said, it would be wonderful to see artwork of her in her originally intended role as a supercarrier.

She would have been a beautiful carrier! Why would Hux ruin a perfect ship design? P.S "Midway" name inspired by the post WW2 carrier class?

Well, it's a Wing Commander reference, which is itself world war 2 in space... so yeah, kinda?

Hey i was wondering if you took commissions? I wanna design a ship, start with basic sketches and once a design I like is done, upgrade to color etc.

leave it to Hux to hijack a perfectly good carrier design, turn it into another battleship with a gun, only to have it literally blow up in his face.Β  And he's still a General why?!

of course...

and that is why having connections don't always a good general make.

i'd be surprised if Hux runs the First Order into the ground with his blatant incompetence.

nepotism and cronyism are a huge problem in most real life militaries. its one of the main reasons soldiers quit, especially in the US army.

malovence [2019-05-03 16:55:47 +0000 UTC]

Of course it would be Hux that screws things up.Β
First he orders a super-carrier to be gutted to serve as what is more or less a massive self-propelled artillery piece(as far as the terminology can be applied to spacecraft).Β
Then he bollocks it a second time by forcing it into combat before it is ready and apparently had finished calibration, presumbly following its shakedown run.
Then he destroys it utterly by forcing a damaged weapon to fire and wasting all of the resources.Β

Lazor11 [2019-05-03 03:19:40 +0000 UTC]

So how would you redesign the star fortress? I recall from the fanfiction, its role resembles a late-Cold War B-52 as a missile platform compared to the film's B-29 or Vietnam War B-52 take. What changes would be made to better fit that role compared to the one in the movie?

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

IgnusDei In reply to Lazor11 [2019-05-03 06:36:11 +0000 UTC]

My main problem with the StarFortress is that it can't land in a hangar for rearming. I'd make it a horizontal design, with two wings large enough to carry a total of twelve torpedoes inside its hull. Not the tiny cones the X-wings carry, more like the Mitsubishi Type 93 Air-to-Ship Missile.

I'm always in awe of your Star Wars tech designs. Your concepts show such a masterful understanding of not only Star Wars mechanics but ideal aerial/space combat roles andΒ weapons requirements. All weapon systems have a purpose and a role to carry out. Your design from first look clearly have a purpose and role to play in spacial combat. They don't just look cool, they are fit for the task.

Your work deserves to be on the big screen. Far better than any thing we're seeing now.

LordArcheronVolistad [2019-04-30 23:18:16 +0000 UTC]

Much better-looking and more well-thought-out than the flat triangle siege dreadnought in TLJ, which to me looked like someone's attempt at implementing Warhammer 40K's level of impracticality without balancing it out with coolness or interesting attributes.

For this ship, it clearly is practically-designed and is informed by lessons that the FO would have learned from the Empire, and looks much more sleek and sharp. I would have though it would have (many) more defensive turrets, like the seeker missile batteries on Resurgent ISDs and other smart weapon systems, but even that can be excused since you explained the background of the ship so well, how it required a lot of power for the reactors and superlaser, and was not fully ready by the time it was rushed into service. I also really like the idea of a hyperspace-capable detachable bridge, after seeing it on one of the ships in Yamato 2199.

IgnusDei In reply to LordArcheronVolistad [2019-05-01 00:36:23 +0000 UTC]

I think they actually had a more traditional arrowhead design in mind, but Rian wanted a flat surface to fly over.

...Of course, even a Resurgent has a lot of flat surfaces to fly over, it's just a matter of perspective, but it's clear that, to paraphrase Spock, Rian is limited by two-dimensional thinking.
