I prefer this paint job over the two design in canon.

Ah, sorry, but I've been too busy with other projects, but I might revisit this design later.

Very cool design, though I feel I must ask what are those triangular pod looking structures mounted on the wing struts? Concussion Missile pods? Booster rockets?

IgnusDei In reply to thatnogoodnoob [2019-09-27 06:23:28 +0000 UTC]
Concussion missile pods. They can be swapped out for different pods, like booster rockets or particle cannons.

Awesome, did consider it strange that it wasn't included in the listed armaments though.

Love the First Order asthetic, and this is a brilliant interpretation/evolution of the TIE Interceptor concept!

My only complaint is that if that gold is the viewport, that is WAY too thin to be effective for the pilot

Honestly, I just operated under the assumption that there is no viewport, so much as a cockpit with cameras offering a 360-degree view within.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea, until you realize that the SW universe is one where EM weaponry (such as ion cannons) is common. With a viewport, if your ship gets hit by an ion cannon, at least you can still see what's going on.

Fair enough.Β Though really, I was merely making an educated guess as to the nature of the viewport.

Huh, that's an interesting idea for a fighter, I've never thought of that.

Wouldn't be the first fighter with that concept in mind.Β There's the Fenrir from the Ace Combat series, and IIRC, the F-35 is experimenting with something similar.

Fair point.Β Though it is possible there may be one or two fighters that function similarly in the old Legends canon.

Thatβs how ships in the old Elite games used to work. They used cameras and sensors to see the universe around them, and from the outside they looked like geometric shapes made from armor plating.

Sorry, that comment was made on my phone. I meant the Elite series by David Braben . in the original game you started out in a Cobra, which was basically the equivalent of a Corellian light freighter, and it looked like this:

There's also the YF-21 from Macross Plus that had a direct neural link for control with a vestigial view-port for use in an emergency (like if the up-link failed)

My guess would be external electronic bays, hyperdrive units and whatnot. Given that the armament list four laser cannons and two blasters.Β
