Description This tutorial is mainly for artisans, craftspeople, and sculptors who find that it's difficult to display their work well in photos, but can't afford a professional photographer. This is basic instruction on how to get the most out of a cheap digital camera. I go through lighting and photographing techniques, as well as some simple Photoshop techniques. Don't worry! If you don't have Photoshop, you will still benefit from reading the first 6 steps. Please let me know if you find this useful in any way, and enjoy!

I see why You got the Daily. It is very nice, that simple tricks are very, very useful sometimes, and You look at something, and say: 'Wow, I haven't really thought of doing it that way! It is so easy! I don't believe it!' (You also feel like a person from TV advertisement ). And so I thought reading Yours. Creepy cameras...

, anyway.

This is a very well done tutorial, useful and easy. Congratulations for the excellent work.
But I have one thing to say. Reading the white letters on the pink background has been a little tiring and annoying for me. I think that you could have used a darker colour for a better result.
Congratulations for the DD

---i really think this is a very useful lesson...i've seen many great craft works so stupidly presented ...which is very dissapointing and sad...if you're able to create wonderful works learn to represent them well too... and ya with your tutorial is kind of easy to learn... i had harder job to learn by myself and trying and trying.. it took me half a year to be at a good level maybe...so with your tutorial it might need just few days of experience so all in all well done---

Nifty. Only thing extra I would've liked to see was the "before" and "after" pics side by side for comparison purposes.

long live crappy equipement!(amongst all the things in the world i hate my camera the most) Now sorry to bother, but you state it's a porotfolio worthy picture... i don't see anything at it to be such a great picture. whatever, maybe i am often too absurd.
Your tutorial is great for most of beginners but it could be a reminder to profis that you can take out something decent (not professional but decent) from a low-end camera and just some imagination. no wonder you got featured in Artist Relations, my congratulations on that

Ratafluke In reply to lokzaza [2006-08-30 01:17:54 +0000 UTC]

It's worthy of an artisan's portfolio. It's not a great picture, it's a good picture of a great ring. Not the photo itself is the work of art, but it's a well-done photo of an artisan's work.

Nice. I have a "table top" studio, which helps, and a less than crappy camera, but this is pretty good for starting out and no equipment what-so-ever.

that's a good tutorial.
and your expression in the first picture, where you show off you're camera is really funny.

i like that your tutorial is funny.
you laugh while you learn.
the best way to do it.

Heh, I do not think that any amount of tutorials will save my crappy camera, it's a 1.3 mega pixel - about 6 or 7 years old
Very good advice none-the-less.
I think it's time for me to find a new camera.

As someone who struggles with photographing my costumes, this was priceless. I can't use photoshop because the customers deserve to see what they are really getting. But man, this is just great. Thank you! sincerely, Janel
