What's New
The New Way To Write Journals (Beta Testers Only)
Sta.sh Writer's toolbar and sidebar have been incorporated into the Write a Journal Entry page to make for a more dynamic journal creation experience! Some of the most highly requested features for the Journal submission page have been present in Sta.sh Writer for some time, such as rich-text formatting and a formatting toolbar. With Sta.sh Writer's advanced capability added, writing a Journal becomes even easier than before.
Change Log
- There were some layout issues on the Premium Membership page. Fixed by yury-n
- Premium Membership notices have been visually improved. Fixed by allixsenos
- The "Add to Favourites" icon did not display properly in Internet Explorer 8. Fixed by shahyarg
- An error could occur when trying to view deviations that had Prints enabled. Fixed by allixsenos
- The category selector on the Write a Journal Entry page was not visibly clickable, and the modal to select a category had visual issues. Fixed by kemayo
- In certain circumstances, the Search bar would take focus when trying to type into the Deviant Login menu. Fixed by muteor
- Profile pages wouldn't display properly if the Journal widget was installed, but no Journals had been posted. Fixed by muteor
- On the Edit Prints page, editing the percentage on the "Update all royalties at once" field would only update the first price. Fixed by yury-n
- Logged out visitors to the Journal Portal would be prompted with a "Join deviantART" modal if there was a Journal flagged as mature content on the page. Fixed by shahyarg
- Under some conditions, the "Previous" and "Next" buttons on deviation pages would not redirect correctly when used after using the browser's back button. Fixed by muteor
- Deleting images from one's Portfolio could result in an error. Fixed by shadowhand
- Disqualification from a contest would not automatically move deviations out of that contest's category. Fixed by shahyarg
- .gif files can now be submitted to more categories. Fixed by yury-n
- The placement of some deviation images would cause the image to touch the top bar of the site. Fixed by muteor
- Browsers would try to autocomplete passwords, when buying from the Shop . Fixed by ZombieCoder
Sta.sh / Submit
- A "Print not enabled" message would display on items in Sta.sh. Fixed by kouiskas
- The warning shown when blocking third-party cookies was too light to read. Fixed by kouiskas
- When uploading an image, the instant preview displayed didn't respect EXIF rotation settings. Fixed by kouiskas
- When using the "Enter text" option of the Submit page, the downloadable file created was .txt when it should have been .html. Fixed by kouiskas
- Google Webfonts was updated. Fonts added between December and last week are now available. Fixed by kemayo
- The "Draw" option was missing from thumbnails when leaving comments in Sta.sh. Fixed by kemayo
- Clicking "Remove" on a thumbnail added from the sidebar would remove the image, but it would not place the cursor where the thumb had been. Fixed by Alisey

- Pressing the tab button when leaving comments in Sta.sh would indent instead of moving focus to the "Submit Comment" button. Fixed by inazar

Featured Gallery
When visiting your own Gallery or the Gallery of another deviant, the section displayed by default is your Featured folder. Do you organize what appears in your Featured folder and what does not, or do you submit everything to your Featured folder? When looking at another deviant's Gallery, do you typically go directly to the "Browse" mode, or do you usually browse through their Featured folder and other folders?

ive fixed it now it was because of my extensions in google chrome so its better now if its still doing that with the journal then just delete you r unwante extensions

go up to the three lines in the top right corner and click then click settings then when your in settings click extensions then just click the garbage can next to your unwanted extensions and...presto you can write again

You can delete Journal entries by going to the Journal you want to delete. The Delete button is in the right column of the page.

I hate the new Journal setup. There's no 'delete entry' button. There's no 'mass delete' either. And of course, the skins never stick when you submit new entries. It always goes back to the default "no skin".

When did DA start imposing a 64 kilobyte cap on uploads of plaintext? Because I know for a fact that I have uploaded this file size before, and it had no issue with it. Now I can't even update my story here because it refuses to let me submit something that is only around 123 kilobytes after Microsoft Word formats it to be a rich text document. On a side note, I do like the new Sta.sh text editor aside from the previously mentioned issues. it brought back support for indentation.

There's always been a 64 kb limit for text files, it's been around longer than I've been on dA, and I've been here for going on 6 years.

I've never had an issue with it before, and the text file that I was attempting to update was just as long as what I was trying to post. So I'm at a bit of a loss as to why it decided not to work anymore. And if we're talking time spent with DA, I've been here for 8 years.

Personally, I preferred the original journal writer; this new one is nice and all, but... there's a few things such as the paragraph double-spacing that really irritate me. The single-spacing looked perfectly fine beforehand in the old writer, so why on earth has it been changed?
It would be nice to have this new journal writer as an optional-- or separate-- choice, to be honest. If we could do it for sta.sh and the submit page, than surely we can do the same for the journal page too. :/

When I try to make a journal, ((I use desktop format on a phone)) the sta.sh writer bar will get in the way when I'm writing. I took a screenshot of it, should I upload it o my sta.sh and give you guys the link?

When ever I type on a journal and 'enter' it skips two lines instead of just the next. And when I press enter on a journal skin the whole text goes white and you can't read it.

I've been using this and had some coding problems- the dA embed feature for youtube videos no longer works in my journals. Since I've recently been trying to do vlog journals, this is really frustrating. I know that the embed coding isn't the problem because it still works on my profile page in the custom boxes- so it has to be the beta journal writer. Any suggestions on how to fix this??

LOL So there is no longer any way to delete a journal skin that has been added to our selection of skins? Because I installed a skin that I guess is outdated, or at least no longer has the graphics added to it, and now after a few failed attempts at trying it out, I can't even delete it from my list of skins.
But I guess that's only because Sta.sh writer has only been in it's beta form for the past more-than-a-year? And we're only just now being literally forced to accept it?
I also noticed a similar problem with polls. I can change them, but not delete them. While I know I've deleted polls in the past.
Also what's up with non-premium members having access to journal customization?
Honestly, I intend not to renew my premium membership. Because I'm not an idiot consumer. dA used to be a nice place, but as a long-time, devoted member, I'm dissatisfied with recent customer service and care. If I wasn't gifted with a membership last December, I'd already be gone.

Hi there! You can delete journal skins by clicking "Change skin" in the bottom right corner, selecting the skin you want to delete, then click "Edit skin" at the top right of the "Style" box. From there, you can click the Delete button in the modal that appears to delete that skin. Also, you can delete Polls by going to your Profile, editing the Poll widget, selecting a Poll, and then clicking "Delete Selected Poll". I hope that helps!
As far as why everyone has access to journal skins, this is temporary. BlackBerry is holding a promotion and is sponsoring journal skins for everyone for a limited time. Once that promotion is over, journal skins will stop being available for everyone. In addition, when non-Premium Members use journal skins during this promotion, any journal they post will have a "Sponsored by BlackBerry" image at the top, like this . Because you have a Premium Membership, that image does not appear over your journals. I hope that clarifies.

I see. Thanks that clears it up. I still wish the buttons were a bit easier to find though. And with polls, you have to click on the edit button twice to find the delete button, which seems more complicated than it needs to be. I was trying to delete polls a few days ago, but it kept saying I had to select a poll even though one was already selected. Maybe that was a glitch though, it's working now.
I never saw the "Sponsored by" image at the top of the journals of non premium members. One had a plain black bar at the top, but I thought it was just part of the skin. And the other had nothing like that.
Thanks for the info, sorry that my previous message was less than polite. I don't want to dislike this website, but I've been having several problems with it recently.

You really need some new moderators. A very popular artist *jollyjack reported the theft of his own work on an account full of the works of many different artists, and the mods had the temerity to tell him that the original artist has to report it, when he IS the original artist.
WTF, is this a website for artists, or Photobucket for 14-year-olds? Because it seems like the latter is getting a lot more protection than the former.

I do not like the new way of writing and submitting journals at all. I usually work solely on an HTML basis and with classes and ids, which are usually rendered useless with the rich text editor. I also do not like the new way the CSS is incorporated into writing journals, but that can be lived with.
A way to make advanced journals more convenient for users like me, separate the rich text and HTML into two very defined functions.

My Featured folder usually contains MOST of everything I submit, but I use it to prune out older entries I'm not as proud of after a while.
Some deviants have an empty/minimal featured folder, so if I see that to be the case I usually go to Browse mode, because I like to see everything that someone posts, not just the occasional "best" piece.

If deviantART ends up going from green to white, I'm going to lose my eyesight. Haven't you read all of the previous comments regarding colors of Sta.sh and the Submit Page? I remember reading one where someone had eye problems and couldn't use some features because of their blinding background color.
On the gallery folders, I submit most of my art in the featured folder and in a sub-folder. If it's part of a series of drawings or a story, I'll keep the more recent one in featured and move the others to their respective categories. I think it's better to keep the gallery on featured instead of browse, because sometimes artists only want to display their best work or certain works at certain times.
